PROJECT WORK OUTLINE — Cape Canaveral History Video
Video production is broken down into three phases: Pre -production, production, and
post -production.
PRE -PRODUCTION:
This is the research and planning phase. Information is researched, storylines are
developed, interviewees are selected, etc.
There are basically two categories of information we need to collect for this project:
A. A list of potential people to be interviewed
B. A list ofpotential topics/stories to be covered (which will later be correlated with a
historical timeline by years)
There are four methods by which information for the above two categories will be
collected:
1. Researching historical materials (library sources, archive files, books)
2. Preliminaryfact-gathering interviews (off -camera interviews conducted in person or
by phone to gather input and ideas from various sources, particularly as recommended
by the Cape Canaveral City Manager and City Council members)
3. Public input (input via email from the public in response to press releases submitted
to local media — emails are followed up with phone calls by production team)
4. On -camera interviews (occasionally interesting topics that may not be on the initial
topic list come up in real-time during the on -camera interview process).
We have already begun gathering materials via method 1 and 2 above, and this week the
press release will go out to generate input for method 3 from the general public.
PRODUCTION. -
This is the phase that requires the lights, cameras, audio equipment, etc., for in -field and
on -location videotaping (conducting the on -camera interviews, shooting additional
supporting video, etc.).
POST -PRODUCTION. -
In this phase, the video and audio are edited, and music and graphics are created and
edited in to create the final story/product.
The Cape Canaveral city client (Cape Canaveral City Manager and City Council
members or other committee defined by the manager and council) are involved most
heavily in phases 1 and 3 -- pre- and post -production. In phase 1, they will provide input
to DANid Productions throughout the pre -production cycle to guide development of the
storyline, list of interviewees, and list of topics/stories to cover in the video. DANid
Productions will provide feedback throughout this phase as the list of interviewees and
topics are compiled. Prior to production, DA/Vid Productions will provide a final list of
interviewees and topics, from which the city client will determine which topics and
interviewees, are recommended for inclusion in the video. The client's heaviest phase 3
involvement will be reviewing and approving or recommending changes to the final
video.

TIMELINE & OTHER POINTS:
EARLY HISTORY OF THE CITY (summary)
1920 land boom, retired Orlando journalists invested in the land here with streets named
after the presidents and called it Journalista, now know as Avon -by -the -Sea
Captain Mills Burnham was the original (permanent) lighthouse keeper.
Brossier brothers defaulted on the vacant land in the late 20's and 30's;
after the WWII Dickson Brossier regained possession of much of the land.
Dickson kept his father's (R.B. Brossier) dreams alive to someday build a city. He set
land aside for use for a new community. These areas are now the CC City Park and CC
Volunteer Fire Dept. Just prior to the city incorporating a volunteer fire dept was formed,
fulfilling the Brossiers' dream.
1958 the area was booming with growth because of the nation's missile program.
The residents consider annexing and becoming a new city.
Letters to area residents about their opinions were sent out.
1961 a committee is formed. Ray Jamieson became the chairman.
First official vote on incorporation March 10, 1962 at Tropicana Juice Plant of Port C.
First Council meeting March 21, Cocoa Palms Rec room, owned by Frank Hoog.
The vote was questioned and another meeting and re -vote was held June 1962 at the
Tropicana plant (205 for, 6 against).
Town limits, town seal, and name of town were voted on.
Charter board elected to write the city charter. First city election held a year later; 13
candidates and 5 seats to fill. Thurm is elected mayor by council.
In 4 years the city constructed a city hall free of debt. 1966
Names listed on the plaque on Polk Ave... Mayor Richard Thurm, Jack Hurck, Frank
Hoog, Martian Schrider and Leo Collins.
Major events in the 4 years were infrastructure of roads, storm drainage, sewage
treatment - What else are we missing?
Mayor Thurm also was on the board at Cape Canaveral hospital.
Space Congress sponsored by Cape Canaveral Technical Society begins
Dec. '63. The Government opened Cape Kennedy for tours to the public for the first time
