A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAPE
CANAVERAL, BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING AND
ENDORSING STATE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECT, PROJECT
ROCKET, AS A QUALIFIED TARGETED BUSINESS; COMMITTING
LOCAL FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO THE QUALIFIED TARGETED
INDUSTRY TAX REFUND PROGRAM PURSUANT TO FLORIDA
STATUTE 288.106; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, economic development and the creation and retention of value
added jobs is a priority of the City of Cape Canaveral City Council; and
WHEREAS, Lockheed Martin is a value added global security company in the
Aeronautics, Electronic Systems, Information Systems and Global Services and Space
Systems business areas company considering an expansion to Brevard County; and
WHEREAS, the Economic Development Commission of Florida's Space Coast is
working with Lockheed Martin, considering expanding in Brevard County; and
WHEREAS, the Company has requested confidentiality under Florida law; and
WHEREAS, the Company will create 28 jobs in Brevard County; and
WHEREAS, the Company, is being actively recruited by other States in the U.S.
as a new site to locate and expand their operations; and
WHEREAS, the State of Florida has identified aerospace manufacturing as a
targeted industry, an industry the State of Florida is committed to promoting through its
primary economic development organization, Enterprise Florida;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA that pursuant to Florida Statute 288.106 the
Council hereby recommends:
State Economic Development Project, Project Rocket, be approved as a
Qualified Targeted Industry business.
2. The necessary commitment of local financial support to the Qualified Targeted
Industry Tax Refund Program is approved and a 10% match in the amount of
$4,900 per year for four years, will be paid to the Florida Economic Development
Trust Fund as required by section 288.106, Florida Statutes.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY, the City of Cape Canaveral City Council this 7th
day of December, 2010.
