Achapon Mankong Introduction Introduction Prepared by: This Prepararation Manual has been prepared by VIKING Life-Saving Equipment A/S for Iona which has been equipped with the VIKING Training Chute. The VIKING Training Chute consists of 3 components: a chute, a chute box and a mattress. The chute should not be exposed to the open air for extended periods of time. The system should be stored in the chute box and covered by the lid when not in use. This manual describes how to prepare the training chute for use, and how to store it. Please note that the illustrations presented in the Manual may not precisely represent actual conditions aboard Iona. Installation of chute box Loosen the rope clutches at the four corners to let the chute slowly down and lock them again when the chute is in position. © VIKING proprietary business information. Install the frame for lowering evacuees with the structure for tarpaulin securely above the chute entrance. 2. Activate the traffic light signal by pressing the start button. The display shows 0. The yellow light will flash for about 20 seconds until the system is ready to start counting. 3. Place the stairs at the chute entrance. 4. Install the deck plate between the chute entrance and the stairs. 5. Attach the seat to the chute entrance with bolts. Then attach it firmly and securely to the ground and/or surrounding walls. Secure the chute outlet back curtains and the front of the chute outlet to the stable structure. Note! Ensure that the mattress is in the correct postion underneath the chute outlet to obtain a safe landing. 3 © VIKING proprietary business information. Release to others without express written permission of VIKING is prohibited.7VIKING Training Chute Preparation ► Move with caution on the mattress. You may wish to take the shoe covers off. Instructions on descent ► Remove keys and any sharp objects from pockets. ► Remove high-heeled shoes. ► Wear your glasses if you wish. ► Put on shoe covers.► Put on lifejacket. ► Descend the chute as instructed by the Chute Leader. © VIKING proprietary business information. Release to others without express written permission of VIKING is prohibited.8VIKING Training Chute Preparation Instructions on descent Toddlers and babies must be held by an adult. Both must wear lifejackets. Older children must descend the chute on their own, following the same procedure as adults. Alternatively, they may be lowered down the chute by sling, following the procedure in Know-How: Assisted evacuation. Keep feet together while in the chute. Reduce speed by pressing hands against the sides of the chute. Hands may get warm due to friction against the chute fabric. This is normal. 1 2 3 © VIKING proprietary business information. Release to others without express written permission of VIKING is prohibited.9VIKING Training Chute Preparation The counter display indicates the number of evacuees who have passed through the chute. The green light signals that the evacuee may descend the chute. On systems on board the ship: The yellow light signals that there is an evacuee halfway through the chute, and the next evacuee is getting ready to descend the chute. On the training chute there is no yellow sensor. The red light signals that an evacuee is in the upper part of the chute. The first person descending will activate the traffic light sensors automatically. This turns on the green light to show ready for the next person and the start of counting. Descend the chute following the Instructor’s command. A red or green light signal shows when to descend the chute. Instructions on descent Note! Release to others without express written permission of VIKING is prohibited.10VIKING Training Chute Preparation Note! The chute must be serviced after a maximum of 1200 descents. Worn fabric can result in injury. The service must be conducted by a VIKING certified technician. During the service, the chute including funnels, chute entrance (the fabric parts) and chute outlet will be replaced. Steel parts will be reused if not damaged. Remove the frame for lowering evacuees with the structure for tarpaulin, the deck plate and the seat. Pull up the lines and lock them in position with the rope clutches. Close the lid.
