I spent time researching some rumors that came to my attention regarding Mayor Wes Morrison. He likely has some very serious residency issues that need to be addressed. If these are confirmed, at minimum these would be ethics violations and could go as high as being forced to resign or removed from office. 1. His primary residence, according to state law, is in Cocoa, Florida, not in the City of Cape Canaveral. His Cocoa home is his Florida-registered homestead. 2. He is registered to vote in Cape Canaveral (precinct 226) and not in Cocoa, his homestead, which I believe is a violation of state voting laws. 3. Cape Canaveral municipal code requires the Mayor and council members reside within the city limits. 4. If he is living in Cape Canaveral full time while his homesteaded residence is in Cocoa, this is a violation of state law. Many people do this to save money on capital gains when they sell investment property in two years or more. However, elected officials need to be held to a much higher standard. Please know that I am not an attorney or profess to being one. The above points need to be investigated, which I and a few other folks will perform. It is very probable that complaints and violations will be filed with the state in the next couple of days. However, until these issues are resolved, I believe it to be in the best interest of the city and all involved that the action to fire the City Manager be tabled or, better yet, completely removed from consideration. It is quite possible that the Mayor does not currently have the authority to be sitting on the dais and casting votes. Thank you and I ask that you be prudent and objective. ~ John Bond
