WHEREAS, the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida, has a great admiration
and the utmost gratitude for all of the women and men and their families
who have selflessly served their country and this community in the United
States Armed Forces; and
WHEREAS, the Purple Heart is the oldest military award in present use
and was initially created as the Badge of Military Merit by General George
Washington in 1782; and
WHEREAS, the Purple Heart was the first American service award made
for the common soldier and it is specifically awarded to members of the United
States Armed Forces who have been wounded or paid the ultimate sacrifice
in combat with a declared enemy of the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, citizens of our community have earned the Purple Heart as
a result of being wounded or killed while engaged in combat with an enemy
force, construed as the singularly meritorious act of service; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida would like to
acknowledge Purple Heart recipients and their families for defending our
Freedoms and believe it is important that we acknowledge them for their
courage and show them the honor and support they have earned.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Wes Morrison, Mayor of the City of Cape
Canaveral, Brevard County, Florida do hereby acknowledge and thank
PURPLE HEART RECIPIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES
and encourage the citizens of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida to show
their appreciation for the sacrifices of the Purple Heart recipients and their
families have made in defending our Freedoms and acknowledge their
courage, and show them the honor and support they have earned.
