HomeMy WebLinkAboutRE_ UpdatesGood morning. Based on the emails I have seen between Gary and FPL, this IS going to happen, just a matter of FPL getting out there.
The area shown in the photo is part of the Center Street Basin, which was recently studied by a third party engineering firm. The Study determined there is too much stormwater runoff
in the basin during heavy rainfall events – the existing stormwater system (built in the 1960s) cannot keep up do the amount of impervious materials (parking lots, driveways, patios,
etc.) in the Fillmore Avenue area. Some properties in this area are completely paved over. The flooding recedes in about 15-20 minutes after the rainfall has ceased, and the existing
stormwater system “catches up”.
The City has ordered a large capacity pump that will be placed on the outfall pipe on Center Street to help evacuate the system of stormwater. This will make room for more stormwater
to alleviate conditions shown in the photo. Unfortunately, the project will not be completed until next hurricane season (2024).
I hope that helps. Dave

What are we waiting to hear about from FPL? A date to do the work? Or is it an IF they are going to do the work?
Also, has Gary contacted Spectrum?
Thanks,
Sherry
***In regards to the picture Maranda sent, that is not the first flooding to that degree we’ve had from rain. I know the neighbors are very concerned.

Hi Dave,
I was holding out hope I'd have some bit of info before the end of today and the weekend from FPL, but I did not ....I'm sorry to say.
Adrian has been pretty good about returning my calls but my messages yesterday and today were not returned. Not for nothing, but I don't doubt he is waiting for something decisive on
his end. He is definitely aware this is an important matter to resolve.
I'll be back trying to connect first thing Monday. Wish I had something for you.
