Other than the concrete footers and the wire running through the attic (which will be contracted out), this project is largely a plug -and -play effort by the home owner. The Bluetti EP800 is a DIY friendly inverter and battery system. Connecting the battery cables and solar wires is fairly dummy proof and plug -and -play. The only complexity is the four wire (L1, L2, N, and G) connections to feed grid power into the inverter and provide power out to the secondary, off -grid panel (re: permit# P23-1780). Hoog Electric configured two outlets to make these two connections plug -and -play using a NEMA 14-30 dryer cord and a NEMA 14-50 range cord. In this configuration, the inverter can be plugged into the grid and/or secondary panel or completely unplugged. The EP800 is designed to be off -grid and will not back feed electricity into the utility grid (as the EP900 is designed to do). Between the design of this inverter, the transfer switch, and the secondary panel, no electricity will be exported to FPL. All solar, battery, and grid -fed power (for backup) is entirely contained within the micro -grid design. The solar ground mount design is largely plug -and -play using a ground mount kit from EG4. This kit is designed for a portrait orientation of the solar panels with four base brackets supporting the ground mount system on four footers. That design was modified to mount the Maxeon solar panels in a landscape orientation. That requires two of these kits to be connected side by side. The connection is through a 24" aluminum tube bolted to each side of the kit / frame. The result is two brackets anchoring the solar panels in the front and back (rather than one). The concrete contractor suggested using two rows of footers. One footer in the back at 24"W x 12"D running the entire length of the solar array (660" or 55') and another footer in the front at 12"W x 12"D running the length of the array. In addition to two brackets (front and back), this amount of concrete is substantial and, as a unit, probably exceeds the weight and structural stability of the original kit design. Once the concrete is poured, 26 brackets (13 back and 13 front) will be anchored via wedge anchors (from the kit). Other than connecting the two kits back-to- back (with the connector and some trimming), all of components for the ground mount are in the 7 EG4 kits. This includes all the ground mount components, which are aluminum and 304 stainless steel. One other important aspect in this design, the solar array faces due South (180 degrees azimuth) and the tilt of the panels will be between 10 and 15 degrees (depending on the footers). 10 degree is the minimum angle (per the US Dept. of Energy) and much less than the original kit design. This property faces the Banana River. With the North, East, and West largely protected by condos, the largest threat of wind is from the South. With a low tilt in the front of the solar array (facing the wind threat) and the house blocking wind from the back of the solar array, there is a low threat of any sail effect on the solar array. As far as wiring, the run from the garage, through the attic, and then to the solar array will be contracted. To minimize DC electrical loss, 8 gauge (10MM) solar wire will be run in a 1" PVC pipe. In the back, a trench will be dug to protect the PVC running from the back wall to the solar array. The inverter has two MPPT battery chargers. So, two strings of Positive/Negative 8 -gauge wire will be run in the PVC pipe. One string will connect to 10 solar panels and the other 8 solar panels. This is due to the input specification of the inverter: 3,000 watts maximum on PV1 (150-360VDC at 12.5A max) and 6,000 watts maximum on PV2 (150-500VDC). There will be two DC disconnects on the ground mount and the inverter has a DC disconnect for both PV1 and PV2. The panels are connected plug -and -play with MC4 terminals. Those connections will terminate in the DC disconnect on the ground mount. The long 150'+ (8 gauge) run will terminate at the DC disconnect on the ground mount and in the garage at the inverter. The inverter is designed to handle over/under current issues. So, the main safety issues relate to protecting the wire from and to terminus.
