CAPE CANAVERAL PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
December 8, 1992
I. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Tim Grady at 4: 11 p.m. Other
board members present were Ernestine Butte, Harry Ernst, Hilma Goff and
Geraldine Vavrek.
Also present were Mayor Joy Salamone, Leo Nicholas and Isabel Escapa,
Library Director.
II. MINUTES
Minutes of the October 13, 1992, meeting were approved as submitted.
III. DIRECTOR'S REPORT
A. Circulation of materials declined 6 percent in October and increased
3 percent in November compared to the same months in 1991 .
B. One hundred books were obtained from Books by Mail for the Library.
C. A total of 600 applications were received for the new Library Aide
position. They were reduced to 50 and 17 were selected for interviews,
which began in December.
D. Books ordered totaled 130 from Baker & Taylor for $1 ,931 ; 560 paperbacks
from Florida Educational for $1 ,600; and 195 books from Quality for
$2,532.
E. The American Association of Retired Persons will offer federal income
tax assistance at the Library beginning February 1 , 1993, and ending
April 15, on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
F. The annual Children's Christmas Party, sponsored by VFW Post 10131 and
its Ladies Auxiliary, will be held at noon on December 12 with
Santa Claus in attendance.
G. Friends of the Library made about $800 from the annual Book Sale,
donated a live Christmas tree to the Library and have agreed to finance
an account at a local book store so that more copies of best sellers
can be purchased.
H. Janitorial services provided by Superor Syjstems have improved after
library officials complained about its work.
IV. OLD BUSINESS
The Library Director is drafting a letter to the City Manager about obtaining
more storage facilities within the Library. The City wants the original size
of the Meeting Room maintained for future City Council and other meetings.

V. NEW BUSINESS
A. Library volunteers will be recognized for their contributions in
February.
B. The Library's Trust Fund maintained by the City contains $2,640.94.
Recent purchases included almost $1 ,000 in videos, a computer cart,
almost $600 in books.
C. Officers of the Cape Canaveral Public Library Board were re-elected
unanimously: Tim Grady, chairman; Geraldine Vavrek, vice-chairwoman;
and Harry Ernst, secretary.
VI. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 5:42 p.m.
