CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chairman Tim Grady at 2:12 p.m. Other board members present were Martha Crusey, newly appointed alternate member; Harry Ernst and Geraldine Vavrek. Also present were Leo Nicholas, Catherine Schweinsberg, director of library operations for the Brevard County Library System,and Isabel Escapa, library director. II. MINUTES Minutes of the December 8, 1992, meeting were approved as submitted. III. DIRECTOR'S REPORT A. Circulation of materials increased 3.73 percent in December, 1992, compared to December, 1991 . B. The new Library Aide is Linda Ward of Cape Canaveral. C. Ordered were 145 books costing $3,000 and 114 children's books costing $1 ,313. Additional state aid will be used to purchase reference books. D. Friends of the Library has received a $1 ,000 gift from the owner of Grenada House Apartments, in the name of his tenants, which will be used to buy videos. Friends of the Library also has given $500 to add to the Stellar Sellers Collection, with the Book Stop providing a 40 percent discount on books purchased. IV. OLD BUSINESS A. The library director will consult with her staff and provide the board with a comprehensive list of physical improvements that could be made in the building. The board then will decide what projects to submit to the city manager and City Council. B. The board will honor library volunteers at a reception at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21 , in the meeting room. They will be presented with book marks and nameplates honoring them will be placed in books given to the library in their names. The city manager and members of City Council will be invited to the reception, with each person attending encouraged to bring a spouse or friend. Among those to be honored will be long-time board member Hilma Goff, who has resigned because of ill health. City Council will be asked to amend the board by-laws to permit honorary members, with Mrs. Goff to be named the first honorary member. LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES JANUARY/Page 2 V.
