HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 06-26-1993 SPECIAL MEETING Cape Canaveral Public Library Board June 26, 1993 I. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 12: 15 p.m. by Chairman Tim Grady. Other board members present were Ernestine Butte, Harry Ernst and Anna Kelly. Also present were City Councilman Rocky Randells; Kathryn Stewart, county library services director; Leo Nicholas and Marilyn Riggerman, and Isabel Escapa, library director. II. DIRECTOR'S REPORT Purpose of the meeting was to discuss what the Library Board would recommend for Cape Canaveral Public Library at a meeting of the Brevard County Library Board Expansion and Construction Committee at 5 p.m. on June 29 at the Central Brevard Library & Reference Center. Mrs. Escapa has no space to provide additional services. Any new items have to replace old items. Both the bottom and top of all shelves are being utilized, although they are inaccessible to many people. Young adult items have to be kept in the children's section, which inhibits their use. A child development section also is needed to serve the city's younger population. Meanwhile, circulation of library items has increased 150 percent during the past year. City-owned land is available for library expansion adjoining the present facility. City population is expected to increase from 8,000 to 10,000 in the next decade. The Library Board voted unanimously to ask the County Library Board Expansion and Construction Committee to recommend a 5,000-square foot addition to the 9,000-square foot Cape Canaveral Public Library,with additional parking provided for seventeen vehicles. III. NEW BUSINESS The Library Board voted to cancel its July meeting. IV. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 12:45 p.m. Harry Ernst, Secretary Tim Grady, Chairman
