Cape Canaveral Public Library Board
June 26, 1993

The meeting was called to order at 12: 15 p.m. by Chairman Tim Grady.
Other board members present were Ernestine Butte, Harry Ernst and
Anna Kelly. Also present were City Councilman Rocky Randells; Kathryn
Stewart, county library services director; Leo Nicholas and Marilyn
Riggerman, and Isabel Escapa, library director.
II. DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Purpose of the meeting was to discuss what the Library Board would
recommend for Cape Canaveral Public Library at a meeting of the Brevard
County Library Board Expansion and Construction Committee at 5 p.m. on
June 29 at the Central Brevard Library & Reference Center.
Mrs. Escapa has no space to provide additional services. Any new items
have to replace old items. Both the bottom and top of all shelves are
being utilized, although they are inaccessible to many people. Young
adult items have to be kept in the children's section, which inhibits their
use. A child development section also is needed to serve the city's
younger population. Meanwhile, circulation of library items has increased
150 percent during the past year.
City-owned land is available for library expansion adjoining the present
facility. City population is expected to increase from 8,000 to 10,000
in the next decade.
The Library Board voted unanimously to ask the County Library Board
Expansion and Construction Committee to recommend a 5,000-square foot
addition to the 9,000-square foot Cape Canaveral Public Library, with
additional parking provided for seventeen vehicles.
III. NEW BUSINESS
The Library Board voted to cancel its July meeting.
