MEMBERS PRESENT: John Dattilo, Colin Finnigan, Bob Gorham, Harvey Renshaw
MEMBERS ABSENT: Marianne Kulac, Regina Mead, Bill Schmidt, Richard Thurm (A)
ALSO ATTENDING: Nancy Hanson, Recreation Director
The Meeting was called to order by Chairman John Datillo at 5:10 pm.
Since the Board did not hold its scheduled November 29, 1998 meeting, the Chairman read into
the minutes of this meeting the minutes of the September 5, 1998 meeting. Harvey Renshaw
moved to approve those minutes; the motion was seconded by Bob Gorham and carried by
unanimous vote of the Members present.
The Recreation Department's Financial Report was reviewed and no issues raised.
Nancy Hanson reported on Recreation Department activities as outlined in her October 1998 and
January 1999 Quarterly Reports.. Major items discussed included:
- The scheduled closing for the property Patriots Park later this month
- .Plans for purchasing and then developing the property now known as Banana River Park
- The Patriots' Day parade and activities scheduled for March 13, 1999, including partici-
pation by the USN Marching and Concert Band from NAS Jacksonville
Under unfinished business, the Board discussed factors involving the Little League Fields
renovation project, especially the impact of new Little League field criteria and current City codes
and standards. Board members noted the potential expense of the project without further action.
As items of new business, Chairman John Datillo announced that Alternate Board Member Steve
Roney had not requested reappointment at the conclusion of his term and that a vacancy now
existed on the Board. Harvey Renshaw proposed, and Board Members unanimously agreed, that
Nancy Hanson make arrangements to thank Steve Roney for his service with a presentation of
the City's Certificate of Appreciation signed by the Mayor. The Chairman then opened the floor
for nomination of Board Officers for the new year. Bob Gorham moved, and Colin Finnegan
seconded, that the existing officers continue for another term. The measure unanimously passed
by Members present. Chairman John Datillo then announced the next Recreation Board meeting
was scheduled for March 22,1999.
There being no further business before the Board, Chairman John Datillo called for a motion to
adjourn the meeting at 5:45 P.M. Such motion was made by Harvey Renshaw, seconded by Bob
Gorham, and passed unanimously by Board Members present.
