HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 03-22-1999CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MARCH 22, 1999 MEMBERS PRESENT: John Datillo, Bob Gorham, Bill Schmidt, Harvey Renshaw MEMBERS ABSENT: Colin Finnigan, Marianne Kulac, Regina Mead, Richard Thurm (A) ALSO ATTENDING: Nancy Hanson, Recreation Director The Meeting was Called to Order by Chairman John Datillo at 5:07 p.m. Harvey Renshaw moved to accept the Minutes of the January 25, 1999 Meeting; Bill Schmidt seconded. The motion was unanimously carried by members present. In Review of the Recreation Department Financial Report, members noted that racquetball income was generally down, while shuffleboard and tennis court use was over projected levels. Nancy Hanson presented the Recreation Director's Report. Members discussed the following highlights without formal action: - On January 29, 1999, the City formally closed and purchased the property known as Patriots Park and planned upgrades will be implemented at the site. - On February 15, 1999, the City formally closed and purchased the property identified as Banana River Park and the existing Five-Year Development Plan will continue as scheduled. - The scheduled winter events of Kingdom Animalia, Gator Bill, and the Patriots' Day Parade and celebration were all carried out with considerable community interest and success. -Planned spring events include the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Bicycle Rodeo, Racquetball Tournament, and Kids Fishing Contest. Under Unfinished Business, Bob Gorham recommended that, since Steve Roney has been unable to attend Board or City Council Meetings to receive his Certificate of Appreciation for Recreation Board Service, the Recreation Director or Mayor be asked to deliver it to him personally. Chairman John Datillo concurred and asked Nancy Hanson arrange such action. Chairman Datillo then announced that the City Council had requested that the Recreation Board set a date and hold an open hearing as to what actions, if any, were appropriate to revitalize the Canaveral City Park, especially the Little League Baseball Fields. After discussion, Board Members agreed to establish 5:00 p.m., April 26, 1999, as a tentative date and to meet as a Board at the Youth Center at 4:30 p.m. on April 21, 1999, to walk the grounds and facilities for full understanding of existing conditions. There being no New Business or Other Discussion before the Board, Harvey Renshaw moved the Meeting be adjouned and Bob Gorham seconded. The motion was unanimously approved by members present.
