RE: Proposed Beach Raking Activities
The proposed beach raking activities by the City of Cape Canaveral (City) prior to and after the Labor Day Weekend will be performed from the water line to slightly above the “normal”
high tide line. Recent hurricanes that moved up the eastern seaboard increased wave height in the area for several days and pushed some debris above the “normal” high tide line. Therefore,
a portion of the proposed activities includes using the beach rake above the “normal” high tide line for the collection of debris only – dead seaweed will not be collected with the
beach rake.
In addition, Geomar Consultants has agreed to meet with City staff prior to initiating the beach raking activities to mark known turtle nests and to provide general guidance on areas
to avoid with the beach rake. The beach raking activities are proposed for Friday, September 4 and Tuesday, September 8.
