Although I wasn't able to hear (audio wasn't great) the entire meeting, my takeaway was that most speakers were investors that DO NOT LIVE in Cape Canaveral. Their main concern was their profit and not our community. Unlike the other Realtors that spoke at the meeting, I live in Cape Canaveral and do not want us to become a resort, we want to know our neighbors and watch out for each other. I moved to Cape Canaveral 5 years ago for a community. I moved from Orange County (after 31 years) where the minimum rental is 7 months, not 7 days. In a tourist county and with so many 2nd homes, it is the only restriction that allowed us to remain a community. If you look at condo associations in Cape Canaveral, the majority of associations have a minimum rental of 1-3 months. This is done for a reason, why should single family homes be so different? One of the investors stated their investment properties were cleaner than any of our homes. I am unimpressed by inflated personal ideas and would rather deal in facts. Another investor started every sentence with "I", again they had no concern for us. As it was pointed out, the investors preached at the committee without any concern or appreciation for our community. The fact is we want to be a community where the people who work here live here, where we can go next door and borrow a cup of sugar or stop and chat about a great restaurant, good music or a recommendation to a dentist. Why are we spending millions to build a multi generational center for visitors? They are going to hit the beach and jump on a cruise ship (hopefully soon). I would rather see more hotels built to accommodate guests who are staying less than 6 months. I know that isn't a popular opinion but I am excited to retire here, play more pickleball, volunteer and enjoy our community. Our single family homes shouldn't become resorts. I don't have all the answers, the idea of grandfathering in current rental properties is reasonable. Moving towards a 6 month minimum is ideal, IMHO.
