CAPE CANAVERAL RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
May 24, 1993
Members Present: Harvey Renshaw Colin Finnegan, Regina Mead,
Pat Render Council Member John Porter
Recreation Director Nancy Hanson
The meeting was called to order at 5:00 by Chairman Harvey Renshaw.
The minutes of the January, 1993, meeting were approved.
The budget report to date was reviewed, and it was noted that the
budget cut of $5,000. has been restored.
Reports
The Director's report was reviewed with the following continents:
The Spring Tennis Tournament was cancelled but a Mixed Doubles
Tournament is scheduled for June.
Summer Recreation program projections are for approximately 40
children.
Unfinished Business
Mrs. Hanson announced that she had distributed survey forms to
residents of Columbia Drive regarding their input in the development
of Columbia Park. Only 15 responses were received despite her active
requests. It was noted that soil samples will have to be taken since
petroleum residue may exist from the service station's location.
Nancy will pursue her inquiries, and that of the possible acquisition
of adjacent property. It was felt by the Board that this project not
be continued at this time. Mr. Porter noted that the City Council
takes a positive attitude in the development of this Park despite the
negative input from this Board.
New Business
Nancy announced that work on the 1993-94 budget is incomplete, but
would be available for review prior to submission to Council.
Discussion
Three vacancies exist on the Recreation and Parks Board. They include
one permanent member and two alternates. Mr. Porter emphasized that
these appointees should be dedicated to the tasks at hand.
It was suggested that a "Bulletin Board" be installed to be used for
informative purposes, i.e., Congratulatory messages to Racquetball
champions, Tennis Team champions, and others meriting such note.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:10.
tfully submitted,
