Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule yesterday to discuss about the parking issues we've been facing in the plaza and other issues directly attributable to the perking issues. We truly appreciate your time and efforts in trying to understand our issues and suggesting ways to have them addressed. Herewith attempting to summarize our discussions from yesterday as accurately as possible. In the event if some inaccuracies have crept in due to my understanding or interpretation of our discussions please feel free to set the record straight : 1.Explained in detail the parking issues we've been facing in the plaza since 2017 .The parking issues are the result of : a) Illegal parking / Parking in undesignated parking areas b) Expansion of parking lot in the end of 2018 2. During the meeting Mr.Dickey explained the following on the expansion of the parking lot: a) Only 4 spots had been officially approved i.e. 2 in the North side in the front of the plaza by the bend (in the pathway) and 2 on the north side by the wall/curb of the end unit. b) All the parking spots drawn up and being used in the back of the plaza and one by the drive through window of the Edible Arrangements unit have not been approved. There was only a verbal agreement between the department of Mr.Dickey, the Land Lord and the owner of Southern Charm that this will be allowed on a temporary basis till the project to expand the parking lot in the back over the storm water drain is approved (application under review) and contingent on southern Charm not expanding their seating beyond the current 102 seats approved by the city. 3.Edible Arrangements based on the square foot it occupies must've 8 parking spots. Both Mr.Morley and Mr.Dickey said that the city has no issues with us erecting "Reserved" signs and having vehicles towed if someone other than our customers/employees park in those designated spots. They said we've a right to have 8 parking spots within the parking lot unless our lease constraints it but cannot say where we want them within the parking lot. We were advised to work with the land lord to get the 8 spots, put reserved signs and get authorization to tow vehicles. 4.Mr.Morley expressed his concerns that there may not be enough clearance for vehicular traffic due to the 2 approved parking spots in the north side by the bend in the front. He asked Mr.Dickey if the approval for the two spots were done in consultation with the fire department. Mr.Dickey answered in the affirmative. Mr.Morley requested Mr.Dickey to check on the clearance aspect again. 5.Mr.Dickey during the meeting acknowledged that he had visited the plaza earlier in the morning and found that our concerns on disruption of traffic flow/safety due to illegal parking to be genuine. 6.Discussed about the run around we were put through last week when reporting about vehicles parked blocking our back door etc. Mr.Dickey and Mr.Morley after exchanging certain ideas said that code enforcement department of the city will be responsible for complaints filed for illegal parking i.e. parking in undesignated spots. This includes the spots by the back of the plaza which have not been approved by the city as Mr.Dickey now understands the issues those spots are causing to the flow of traffic and other safety hazards like blocking of back door etc. Mr.Dickey stated that he'll inform code enforcement department to accept our complaints on this matter and follow up. Mr.Morley and Mr.Dickey wanted us to document each incident with timestamped photos prior to engaging code enforcement. Given the transient nature of people parking in the plaza they cannot pursue action against the actual people parking illegally but will serve notice to the Land Lord (once a pattern is established) for not addressing the parking issues in the plaza. 7. Mr.Morley and Mr.Dickey expressed their genuine concern and regretted (though there was no need) for the prejudice we have been facing the last few weeks however said they cannot do anything about it. Told Mr.Morley and Mr.Dickey that we understand that the city cannot do anything for the ignorance of others. Our concern was that those episodes happened solely due to the parking issues in the plaza and if these parking issues are not resolved then it'll keep exposing us to such unpalatable situations. And all we want is for the parking issues to be resolved. 8.Mr.Morley spoke in detail about the incident we had with an elected official who came in to the store from the side door and demanded the a running vehicle (things were being unloaded) which was parked on the pathway as there was no space in the back to unload . Told Mr.Morley that our concern was the same standards are not being followed though we understand that the vehicle was indeed in the path despite room to go around. Mr.Morley talked about how we can go about filing a ethics complaint against any elected official and/or city officials. He however said that in this particular instance there might have been some other factors distorting the situation prior to the elected official walking into out store as he has known the individual for 18 years and believes that he is a good man. We agreed there might have be other factors including different perceptions but only thing that bothered was the tone and tenor of the communication and the approach. We told Mr.Morley as it's in the past we need not delve on it anymore. Once again thank you Mr.Morley and Mr.Dickey for your time and actively trying to help us. We truly appreciate your efforts.
