Subject: CAFR 2012 Major Initiatives Input
All,
I am updating the Major Initiatives portion of the CAFR 2012 and would
like you to give me input on just the Major Initiatives that took place
in FY 2012. Just a few brief statements on items such as the North
Atlantic Ave Improvements Project, Sand Filters, Economic Opportunity
Overlay District, Community Redevelopment Area (CRA),Brownfield
Area—AKA-- City of Cape Canaveral Economic Enhancement District (CCEED).
I have attached LAST YEAR’S Narrative as a reference below. Can you
have this info to me by Tuesday the 26th.
MAJOR INITIATIVES
Through the Citizens Visioning Committee, established in 2009, the City
continues implementation of the community’s strategic vision which will
strengthen Cape Canaveral economically by creating a strong high
quality, high service level community in which to live, work and play.
The Ridgewood Avenue project was completed during 2011. This major
artery through the City provides the community and visitors, a visually
pleasing beautifully landscaped, safe roadway, including sidewalks, an
eight foot wide pedway and solar panel street lamps the length of
Ridgewood Avenue creating a strong sense of place.
The City’s computer network was rebuilt in the prior year. During 2011
continued enhancements included software upgrades to the Finance
Department software and various replacements of computers throughout the
City. Additional software upgrades were completed in 2012 as the City
continues to pursue the strategic goal of streamlining the finance
process and providing for a “paperless” purchasing process. The City
also provided six personal computers for the Cape Canaveral Library.
Work was completed on the interior and exterior renovation of the Cape
Canaveral Sheriff’s Precinct. The Council Chambers, housed in the
Precinct, were moved to the Library and the building was completely
remodeled to enlarge and modernize the Sheriff facilities.
Significant Stormwater projects were completed during the current year
including Ridgewood Avenue, Harbor Heights and work on the South Central
Ditch. These enhancements to the City’s Stormwater system will allow
proper channeling of runoff water throughout these areas. Improvements
were also completed at the Manatee Sanctuary and Banana River parks.
Renovations and upgrades were made to Lift Station number 2 within the
City’s Sewer system. This will enhance the efficiency of the City’s
sanitation system. An emergency stand-by generator was installed at the
Lift Station to supply emergency power in case of a hurricane or other
disaster. A four-year manhole rehabilitation program was also initiated
as eighty-eight (88) manholes and wet wells were relined eliminating
ground water infiltration reducing flow to the Wastewater Treatment
Plant.
In keeping with the City’s goal to maintain its facilities and
infrastructure, the roof on the Streets Division was replaced and the
tennis courts were resurfaced.
Thanks,
John
