HomeMy WebLinkAboutcocc_proclamation_summer_of_space_20190621-0923[CITY SEAL] OFFICIAL PROCLAMATION CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA WHEREAS, Cape Canaveral has been the gateway to worlds beyond our own for more than half a century; and WHEREAS, this year marks the 50t" anniversary of Apollo 11 and the City of Cape Canaveral's Resolution No. 1969-30, adopted on August 19, 1969, celebrating the efforts of all associated with man's first landing on the Moon and safe return to the Earth; and WHEREAS, the City has celebrated its connection to the history of Space Exploration as the focal point of all City events, youth programs and Community outreach initiatives throughout 2019; and WHEREAS, the City has implemented a series of cultural programs commemorating this historical milestone, to include its first publicly commissioned mural, space themed public art installations on traffic control cabinets, a category for space themed artwork in the 20th Annual Student Art Show, a digital history exhibit and several literary works authored by the City's Poet Laureate, Timothy Bass; and WHEREAS, the legacy of mankind's first steps on the Moon cannot be summed up in a single day's event. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert E. Hoog, Mayor of the City of Cape Canaveral, Brevard County, Florida, do hereby proclaim June 21— September 23, 2019 as the SUMMER OF SPACE in the City of Cape Canaveral and do hereby encourage our residents to take pride in this heritage and remember the sacrifices made by members of this Community and others in pursuit of making an American astronaut the first to set foot on the Moon.
