This residential and business friendly atmosphere is a livable, attractive, safe, inclusive and sustainable coastal community that embraces the oceanside and riverside as the main amenities, and supports and promotes local tourism, culture, recreation, commerce, municipal civic interests and education. We envision: A City network of"complete streets"with a native-landscaped and tree-lined median with traffic calming elements and dark-sky street lighting. "Complete street"amenities include bicycle facilities, covered transit stops and safe pedestrian crossings that invite pedestrians and bicyclists to access the beach, river, local neighborhoods and adjacent communities. Our improved"complete streets"will allow us to travel calmly to intimate waterfront destinations and a walkable uptown core. Multi-use paths lined with shade trees should be wide enough for bikes and pedestrians and lighted so anyone can walk or bicycle safely anywhere in town, day or night. We envision: Welcoming community entrance features that create a sense of arrival and unique community identity as The Space Between®. The"uptown"and other areas will contain an architecturally rich and unique mix of uses, with wide tree shaded sidewalks and umbrella covered café tables at restaurants and bistros where friends gather, interact and enjoy drinks and dinner. We envision: An engaged and compassionate community that; removes or transforms blighted and unfinished buildings into attractive structures, offers city-wide green spaces, provides a pet-friendly park with ample shade, acts progressively but deliberately and actively recruits and supports businesses that enhance economic viability and serve our residents and visitors with goodwill. We envision: Open shorelines and rivers accessible to the public including amenities that take advantage of the water, such as limited and quaint water-view establishments and intimate public gathering and entertainment places that may include pavilions, gazebos or a performance stage. \1/4411111k. • re you #HurricaneReady? Visit www.citvofcanecanaveral.or /hurricane Irma Canoe Exhibit Opening Recap Last Friday, the City welcomed archaeologists from PaleoWest Archaeology and local photographer Randy Lathrop for the opening of the interim Irma Canoe exhibit in the Community Artifacts Room of City Hall. Residents and visitors got their first look at this historical artifact and had the opportunity to learn more about the science behind exploring the origins of Florida's dugout canoes. Despite the extensive research that's been done on the Irma Canoe, there are still more questions than answers regarding its age and creators. As a Community surrounded by water and relatively isolated from the mainland until well into the 20th century, the City of Cape Canaveral is honored to have be given the opportunity to exhibit a piece of history so significant to our Community's heritage. The Irma Canoe stands as a testament to how the early residents of Brevard's beach and island Communities were driven by necessity and ingenuity to make the most of their resources and how they came to build the societies we live in today. i _.. , F, ,.._.,,,n7::::-2::: ::,,,,'.:':!:::::;‘: CAN THE CODE&':!:: Y ` _ +_^ a t orm reuarcM1 on tM1s ne ota k'ntl _ unansuxretlquest B - — wo„de.urM1atwa,t,aarorwasmamerratt. i ____ =Iiii *. , a I- r, 11 • If you were unable to attend, you can watch the presentation at www.voutube.com/watch?v=cN5ZfOrM3fU. 1144%111001114. • re you #HurricaneReady? Staff provides services in five main categories which include administration, infrastructure maintenance, laboratory, reclaimed water and wastewater collection. Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) — Sanitary Sewer System Oxidation Ditch Rehabilitation Project Full bypass operations from the oxidation ditch to the equalization basin were started in mid-January. The ditch was emptied and cleaned of sand, debris and sludge. Structural analysis observed extensive damage to several of the concrete columns and walkways along the northern end of the ditch. Replacement of the columns and walkways is complete. Dry and wet testing of the new system was completed in September 2018 and no issues were encountered. Staff received approval from Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP)to place the ditch back into service. The contractor is currently emptying the ditch of reclaimed water and requested the certificate of substantial completion. Equipment removal, general site cleanup and Staff training will complete the project. Force Main #3 Replacement Project The project was initiated and includes the replacement of Force Main#3 located within several right-of-ways in the north-central portion of the City. FDEP provided final approval to place the new force main into service. Tie-ins to the existing force main along Thurm Boulevard and Lift Station No. 3 on W. Central Boulevard were completed the week of August 6. The final tie-in to Kelsey's Italian Restaurant&Pizzeria was completed the week of September 24, 2018. Abandonment of the old force main is complete. Minor repairs and cleanup activities remain for project completion, anticipated in October 2018. The final walk-through is scheduled for the week of October 8, 2018. ‘141.1114. • re you #HurricaneReady? Make a plan!
