Reports
Ms. Wehking reported that new VoIP phones were being installed at the library today. We had a
busy holiday season. The stats were down, not just in Cape Canaveral but everywhere in the
County. We held several successful adult programs in the last month or so, including a cooking
program and a movie night that featured the film "Dunkirk". The CBAA Art Show is this
weekend. After the art show, all the city owned furniture will be removed from the meeting
room.
We replaced Donna Murray with Carmel Bardin, and are going to be interviewing to fill
Carmel's old position February 13'h. Our new employee, Tia Thomas is doing well.
The Friends of the Library have purchased new meeting room chairs. They will be here
sometime in the March/April timeframe and are black and silver folding chairs. A storage rack
is included in that order. New tables are being priced. Once the County replaces the flooring,
we can replace the last of the fabric covered chairs near the magazines.
Nine weeks of summer reading programs have been planned. Due to the increase in attendance
with the city summer camp, we will be splitting some of the performance prices with the city.
The budget for the summer programs was approved by Jean Deck.
Bobbi Brown brought her watercolors class back to the library on Thursdays at 1 pm. The
Underwater Treasures event was cancelled as the lecturer needed transportation from Indian
Harbor Beach and none was available. The Kilted Man is a new performer to the library, and
will be performing Scottish and Irish music. A Blood Pressure clinic is on the schedule, and the
book club is doing well.
Ms. Ernst asked about the health checks that used to be at the library several years ago. No one
had heard why we hadn't had one lately.
We are continuing to weed the collection with the help of our snowbird volunteers. There was a
threat made against our employees. The Sheriff s department said it wasn't a credible threat, but
Library Administration took it very seriously. Several employees took the Active Shooter
training class given by the Sheriffs office.
The Little Libraries are doing well. Mr. Holmes and Mr. Weisfeldt report many donations and
visitors that have left comments in the record book. There is a third Little Library in the works.
Thank you to the VFW Auxiliary for the $1,000.00 to Youth Services. $400.00 is already
earmarked for a new rug for the children's story time area.
The Volunteer luncheon was held at Florida Seafood. The holiday dinner for the staff was held
at Brano's. The Friends of the Library paid for both meals.
The December book sale went well. Currently, we've got a WWII book sale going on at the sale
table.
Ms. Wehking is the notary for the library. The cost is $2.00 per stamp. The library also does
faxing for $1.00 per page and scanning, currently at no charge.
Ms. Ernst asked if we could change the time of the music performances, as early evening is
sometimes difficult for people to attend. She will speak with Carmel Bardin about days and
times, and with Jean Deck about funding.
The County Library Board meeting will be held at the Cape Canaveral Library on March 21St,
4:30 pm. The public is welcome. This board is appointed by the county commissioners.
Mr. Vergara reported that this weekend is the annual Sea Oats planting/Beach cleanup event.
There will be 6 gourmet food trucks serving the volunteers in the evening. Last Saturday was the
Mayor's Fitness Challenge Kickoff event. Cape Canaveral won the "Fitest City" title last year.
Anyone can sign up at the Recreation Center.

The new City Hall is open. This will be our last meeting outside of the City Hall Council
Chambers. The pink 2 story building behind the city hall will be torn down in a few weeks to
make way for a parking lot. The old city hall will be the interim youth center.
Mr. Vergara stated that the city is going to star letting leashed dogs at city parks. Dogs are still
not allowed on the beach, except for service animals with a specific job function.
Six hotels are planned for Cape Canaveral near the port. These have been in the planning stage
for twelve years. Several restaurants and parking structures are included.
