HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 12-12-1991MINUTES OF MEETING CAPE CANAVERAL RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD December 12, 1991 Members present: Harvey Renshaw, Nate Jones, Bill Schmidt, Marianne Kulac, Colin Finnegan, Pat Bender Also present: Councilman John Porter, Recreation Director Nancy Hanson, Alternate Board member John Maloney, III The meeting was called to order at 5:30 by Chairman Marianne Kulac. The minutes of the July and September meetings were unanimously approved by Harvey Renshaw's motion, second by Nate Jones. Nancy Hanson discussed the financial and activities reports, and noted that all programs have been successful. She cited the Teen Holiday Dance of December 6, with over 90 in attendance, as well as the Tennis and Racquetball tournaments, with many enthusiastic participants. She announced that the Central Brevard Special Olympics shuffleboard program which had taken place at our courts was a success and will continue periodically. A softball clinic was conducted for 11 and 12 year old girls. City Council was contacted and fees were waived in some instances. Harvey Renshaw has been selected to serve as a member of the Brevard County Recreation Board. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1. Current plans call for the Beautification Board's project at the ballfield to begin this month. 2. Nate Jones announced that the tennis players have requested scoring cards, and Harvey Renshaw renewed his request for a ball machine. The 'net trays' are very much appreciated by the players. Councilman Porter noted that the budget is being scrutinized at present, but since court resurfacing has been completed, some later consideration may be given to these items. ELECTION OF OFFICERS Bill Schmidt nominated Marianne Kulac for another term as Chairman. Colin Finnegan seconded and the nomination was unanimously approved. Bill nominated Harvey Renshaw for Vice Chairman for another year. Nate Jones seconded, and the nomination was unanimously approved. Harvey nominated Pat Bender for Secretary, seconded by Nate Jones and unanimously approved. NEW BUSINESS Parade: March 14th is the 30th anniversary and Patriots' Day parade. Each Board member will be asked to help in some capacity. Plans thus far include: Blocked off area behind the library for entertainment, food booths (by nonprofit organizations of both CB and CC; Craft sale; Art show; T shirts, hats etc. will be sold. The parade route will be - Organize on Central, to Ridgewood, to Taylor to Recreation Area. As plans become firm our help will be needed. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:30, and we enjoyed a Holiday Open House with the staff and City Council members. Respectfully submitted,
