CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Tim Grady at 4:00 p.m. Board members present were: Chairman Grady; Vice-Chairperson E.Butte; Hilma Goff; Harry Ernst & Gerry Vavrek. Absent: Pat Stenglein, Sec. ; Bill Blankenship. Also present: Isabel Escapa, Library Director; Mayor Joy Salamone: Council- man Rocky Randels & Leo Nicholas. 11. MINUTES: Accepted as read. 111. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: A. Monthly Statistical Review: 16% gain over this time last year. B. Activities & Events: 2/13/91 Attended Brevard County Library Board Meeting at CBL&R. 2/22 Lynn Bennett attended a Children's Librarian Meeting at Melbourne. 3/1 Attended Library Director's Meeting at CBL&RC. 3/4 Barbara Sims went to a Budget Training Workshop at the new Government Center. 3/6 Lynn Bennett and I went to the Budget Training Workshop at the Government Center. C. Videos: Ordered 137 videos for the adult and children's collections from Ingram for the amount of $2300.00. (approx.) New Equipment: Ordered one 16 Bill Howell Eiki projector from Gaylord for $1500.00 and 8 children's VHS Video Tape Modular Units to make two towers, for $1600.00. I used the additional supplemental money that was given to Cape Canaveral Library this year. Palm Bay Library: The Board of County Commissioners sent us an invitation to attend the Groundbreaking ceremony of the new Franklin =Db-Groodt- Memorial Library. This will be at 11:00 a.m. , Friday, March 15, 1991. A map is included. Port Canaveral Seafood Festival Art Contest: The Cocoa Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring an art contest for children K-6 Grade. Hire Freeze Brevard County: A recommendation was made to Mrs. Kathryn Stewart to reduce the equivalent of 2 full-time positions in the Library Dept. There are 20 vacant positions. The following were approved at our C C LIBRARY MINUTES MAR. p/2 Library Director's Meeting: 20 hours Office Assistant 1 for the Riverhouse; 21 hours Clerk for Books by Mail: 15 hours Library Page for EauGallie; 30 hours Library Page for the Merritt Island Library. In the discussion that followed it was pointed out that the total impact is that service hours will be cut from the small libraries and that all programs will be adversely affected. IV. OLD BUSINESS: A memorandom was forwarded to the Board from City Manager Ed Spenik with reference to the Library Moisture Problems & also the Paint Peeling Problems. The estimated expenses with the insurance company is approximately $16,000.00 with confirmation for $12900.00. The library will have to be closed for about 10 days while the repairs are made. Mr. Spenik is still negotiating with the insurance company. V. NEW BUSINESS: Mrs. Escapa presented her proposed Budget for Fiscal Year 1991-92. Copies were handed out. Discussion followed. Mrs. Escapa also proposed buying a new copier machine. Ernestine Butte brought up the matter of the Friends of the Library. The Board was in favor of having this group affiliated witht he library at a future time. Motion by E.Butte to this effect seconded by Tim Grady. At this time Isabel Escapa left the meeting while the Board discussed her evaluation as Library Director. The Board was unanimous in rating Mrs. Escapa as superior. She was so informed. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Next County Library Board Meeting - March 14, 1991 - 5:30 p.m. at Central Brevard Library & Reference Center.
