CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Tim Grady at 4:05 p.m. Board members present were: Tim Grady, Chairman; E.Butte, Vice-Chairperson; Pat Stenglein, Sect. ; Hilma Goff; Gerry Vavrek; Harry Ernst Absent: Paul Acson; Alternate. Also present were: Isabel Escapa, Library Director; Mayor Salamone. 2. MINUTES: Accepted as read. 111. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: A. Monthly Statistical review: July - 29% gain over previous year. Aug. - 31% gain over previous year. B. Activities & Events: • 7/12 attended Library Director's meeting at CBL & RC. 7/15 Special Budget meeting at CBL &RC. 7/27-31 Pilot International Convention in Atlanta. 8/14 Periodical Processing Material meeting, Friends of the Library Policy Committee and & Brevard County Library Board at CBL & RC. 8/16 Library Director's meeting at CBL & RC. 9/6 Library Director's meeting at CBL & RC. C. Correspondence: Sent a memo to Jan Leeser, Cape Canaveral City Clerk, regarding Library Meetings scheduled for 1991-1992. Received an article from Ed Spenik, City Manager, about the homeless problem. Received Friends of the Library material from Broward County, which we used at the Friends. . .Group Committee. We really appreciate Mr. Spenik's contribution. A letter from the Florida Library Assoc.re Legislation aid and a memo from Barratt Wilkens, State Librarians, Briefings on Proposals & Revisions of State Aid to Library Programs. (Copies of memos handed out) . D. Print arfi Non-Print Materials: Went to Mumford, Jacksonville on July 24th and purchased 268 books for the amount of $3,162.00. Ordered from Ingram 62 videos at $920.11 from the Supplemental Budget. Ordered 72 compact disks from Baker & Taylor for $712.98. Equipment: Received and installed 2 Children's Video Towers. Received Paperbacks and hardcover racks, Literature Racks. Received Hanging Bag Display Case (Books & Cassettes) for the children. A Bulletin Board for the lobby area- the one we had next to the display case was put in the children's area. • N • C C LIBRARY MINUTES SEPT.p/2 New phones were installed and we received training. Received Locater Shelf, Book Support Ends, that also serve as signage. E. Personal Computers: We will receive our personal computers next week. Training will start on 1st. on Word Perfect. F. Sumner Library Program; Enrollment was 3,090 children and the attendance was 18,635 at the 13 libraries. Cape Canaveral had 12 children registered. Ellen Marcus was the recipient of the "I Care" award from the Brevard County for putting on three children's programs with thirty minutes notice. A card congratulating Ellen was sent. G. Fines & Fees: A week prior to Thanksgiving Day we will accept food for the needy instead of fines. H. In the County: Grand Opening for Satellite Beach will be Saturday, Sept. , 21st. , at 10:a.m. Eau Gallie is re-opening Sept. 26th. or the 30th. of Sept. I. The following in formation was handed out to the Board members; The Fall Adult Program-- Film Series Program---Study Skills Workshop Interest Survey--- Policy BCC 16, Library Materials Selection--Policy BCC17 Unsolicited Materials-- LS 14 Friends of the Library Operating Guidelines. Brevard County Library System Service and Long Range Goals for 1 to 5 year plan. IV. OLD BUSINESS: Mrs. Escapa reported that gutters had been installed on the library building and the water leakage seems to have stopped. The leak in the air-conditioner was fixed by the city employees. Copies of the roof warranty were made available to the Board by Mr.Leo Nicholas. V. NEW BUSINESS: A motion by Ernestine Butte to reply to the Florida Library Associaton letter was withdrawn. Harry Ernst suggested that a future lecture series might consist of inviting people with interesting topics or experiences to speak at the library. VI. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Next County Library Board Meeting- Sept. , 11,"1991 at 5 p.m. at CBL & RC Next Cape Canaveral Library Board Meeting- Oct. 8th. , 1991 at 2 p.m. ADJOURN: Meeting was adjourned at 5:12 p.m. Patricia Stenglein, Sect.
