HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 01-09-1990 MINUTES CAPE CANAVERAL LIBRARY BOARD JANUARY 9, 1990 1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 2:08 p.m. by Chairman Tim Grady. Board members present were: Chairman Tim Grady; Pat Stenglein, Sect. ; Hilma Goff; Gerry Vavrek. Absent: Ernestine Butte and George Farrell. Also present were: Mrs. Escapa, Library Director; Councilmen Rocky Randels and John Porter. 11.MINUTES: Minutes were amended to read "Mercy Watch" not "Money Watch".See p/2. Motion by Hilma Goff to so amend seconded by Tim Grady. Passed. 111. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: A. Monthly Statistical Review: Circulation increased 188% over this time last year. Mrs. Escapa emphasized large increase partly due to Cocoa Beach Library being closed for renovations. B.Activities and Events: 11/26 Position re-classification: Barbara J.Sims was appointed Library Assistant 111. She is now officially our Circulation Supervisor. We wish her the best of luck and success in her new position. 12/16: Children's Christmas Party: This was a big success. We had an attendance of 160 persons (parents and children). A thank-you letter was .sett to VFW Post 10131 and the Ladies Auxiliary. The carpet in the meeting room was cleaned after the party. For this we thank the Cape Canaveral City Officials. C. Janitorial Services: Upkeep Enterprises won the bid. They started cleaning our library this week. We will pay them $580.00 monthly. We hope this arrangement works out much better than the one we had previously. D. Videos: The amount of $1600.00 was transferred from fines and fees for the purchase of 6 video display units. We are going to use four to make a tower and the other two will be installed in the end panels in the adult collection. Videos will be shelved on these units with beepers. This will make it easier for the Circulation staff and will leave us additional space in the working room to shelve our magazines. E. CLSI Update: Ellen Moyd, Satellite Beach Circulation supervisor, has been training the staff (CLSI off & on line system) . 12/28 Gaylord was shut off and we started using CLSI off-line systems. C C LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES JAN./p.2 F. Cable Service: Mr. Tom Jenkins, Brevard County Administrator received,;sa a letter from Cable Vision stating that they will provide cable service as a public service to those libraries that meet franchise requirements. We will not be served because there is no cable on this block. G. Video License for PUblic Performance Rights: Spoke with Mrs. Sweinberg, and we are going to pay the fee of $369.00 so we will be able to show videos to our patrons in the meeting room. In this way we will be participating in the Video and Umbrella Licensing Program of the County Library system. H. Mrs. Goff has subscribed to the Senior Scope Newsletter for the library. IV._NEW:.BUSINESS: °Mr. ,Nicholas expects the outdoor lights to be available next month. Tim Grady inquired about a stop on the bathroom door to protect the wall. Leo will call G and S to review this matter. V. ANNOUNCEMENTS: There will be a meeting of the Brevard County Library Board at the Central Brevard Library and Reference Center. February 8, 1990 at 7:30 p.m. The next meeting of the Cape Canaveral Library Board will be at 2 p.m. February 13, 1990. VI.
