CAPE CANAVERAL LIBRARY BOARD
MARCH 13, 1990
1. CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order at 4:07 p.m. by Chairman Grady.
Board members present were: Chairman Grady; Pat Stenglein, Sect. :
Hilma Goff; Gerry Vavrek.
Board members absent: Ernestine Butte (ill) ; George Farrell.
Also present were: Mrs. Escapa, Library Director; Leo Nicholas, City-
Manager; Mayor Joy Salamone; Councilman Randels.
11. MINUTES:
Motion by Hilma Goff seconded by Tim Grady that minutes be accepted as
read. Passed.
111. DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
A. Monthly Statistical Review: Total gain over this time last year 24%.
B. Activities and Events;
2/27 Attended ILL workshop at Central Library.
3/4 Attended Library Director's meeting at CLA.
3/5 Joan Saloman and Barbara Sims attended the CLST training held at
CLA in the a.m. Carmen Berntson and I in the afternoon session.
3/6 Attended Terminal Troubleshooting Workshop at CLA.
3/7 Attended Reference Librarians meeting.
C. Library Day will be held on Wednesday, April 11th. , 1990, in Tallahassee.
It includes lunch with our legislators. As in other past years, a board
member, friend or interested citizen must attend before the Director
is authorized -to travel.
D. Cape Canaveral Library Sign: Someone stole 11 letters from our sign.
A report was filed with the Sheriff's Dept. We haven't heard anything
more about it. Mr. Nicholas reported it to the insurance company.
E. Children's and Reference Librarian interviews will be done throughout
this week to choose the person to occupy this position. A temporary
library aide, Pamela Workman, was hired to help us.
F. CLSI: An enhancement was done to the CLSI system which makes it possible
to highlight Cape Canaveral titles, making the search easier for every-
one. Patrons have been using the CLCAT (on-line catalogue) without
any problems.
G. Money found in a book: Five $20 bills were found in a book by a patron.
She handed it in to the Circulation Desk. If unclaimed at the Sheriff's
Dept. it will go to the library. It will be deposited in the Book Sale Fund.

H. Atlas Stand: We received the Atlas Stand that was ordered to display the
Cape Canaveral History scrap books by Mrs. Ann Thurm. She already has seen
it and was satisfied where it was placed. She has prepared a third volume
which was given to the library through the City of Cape Canaveral.
I. Mr.Nicholas spoke with G & S contractors and they will repair and paint the
walls where the paint has peeled off.
J. The Community Relations Committee of the County Library Board, prepared the
nominating criteria for the awards recognizing exceptional efforts for .
libraries. They would like to have our input on whether other items should
be included.
1V. OLD BUSINESS:
A letter was received from former volunteer Elaine Sheridan, thanking the
Board for her Certificate of Commendation.
V. ANNOUNCEMENTS:
There will be a meeting of the Cocoa Library Board at the Central Brevard
Library and Reference Center at 7:30 p.m. on April 10th. , 1990.
The next meeting of the Cape Canaveral Library Board will be at 27 m.
on April 10th. , 1990.
