CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Grady at 2:07 p.m. Board members present were: Chairman Grady; Vice-Chairperson E. Butte; Hilma Goff and Gerry Vavrek. Also present were: Mrs. Escapa, Library Director; Leo Nicholas, City Manager, Councilman Rocky Randels. Board member absent: Pat Stenglein, Secretary. 11. MINUTES: Minutes as submitted from previous board meeting were approved. 111. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: A. Monthly Statistical Review: A drop of 7% over this time last year was observed possibly due to seasonal visitors returning home. Ideas were presented as to how to maintain/increase patronage. B. Library Director, Mrs. Escapa, and Gerry Vavrek, Board member, went to Tallahassee for Library Day. Their trip included visits with various state officials including C.Roberts, T.Deratany and the Secretary of State. C. Copies of the library budget proposal and justification for same have been given to each board member. This is a copy of what has been given to Mrs. Stewart for presentation to the County Library Board. D. Certificate of Appreciation presented to the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW for all their help to us. E. May 7th. , attended a cost accounting and finance workshop pertaining to library managment. F. Many thanks to Mayor Salamone for her letters to Senators' Gardner and Deratany regarding Senator Kirkpatrick's position concerning library funding. G. Board members received user forms as well as notice of 1990 Holiday and Sunday closings. The latter to be posted for the general public. C C LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES MAY/p.2 H. Six baskets have been acquired for patrons to use . Two "light" pens have been received for use with the CLSI system. Highlighting of the children's books in the CLSI discussed. I. Asked Board members for approval to remove the card catalog from use. At this time a motion was made by E. Butte for removal, seconded and approved. J. Information for the 1990 Florida Governor's Conference and the 1990 White House Conference on libraries was presented. K. Summer Programs for children will start June 13th. , and will run for eight weeks. Activities are scheduled for Wednesday's at 2 p.m. for 8-12 year-olds. Features will include Arts and Crafts, films, videos, stories and fun activities. L. Due to changing operating conditions at the library, it may be necessary to acquire an additional staff member. IV. OLD BUSINESS: A. Replacement of stolen letters, as well as relocation to a higher position on our building, is being done. B. Light poles and fixtures have been installed. Many thanks to the City of Cape Canaveral for it's continuing help to the library. V. NEW BUSINESS: A. The possibility of acquiring a large screen (projection) television for the showing of the video tapes was discussed. E. Butte proposed that a collection box be placed in the library for the purchase of same. A motion was made by E. Butte that a notice be posted in the library informing the patrons that donations of money for this project would be appreciated. Motion seconded and passed. B. Gerry Vavrek will look into the possibility of a grant or donation from the community for this purpose. Chairman Grady offered to explore other possibilities. C. Hilma Goff made a motion to start the process of officially informing the public of our desire to hold a book sale in the future. The date will be determined at a future meeting. Motion seconded and passed. D. Councilman Randels suggested sending a notice to each of our area schools regarding our library hours. Additional ways were discussed by the Board to inform the public of our hours of operation. V!.
