HomeMy WebLinkAbout6a-03 Inlet and Baffle Box Maintenance SOPInlet and Baffle Box – Structural Control Inspection City of Cape Canaveral The purpose of stormwater Inlets and nutrient-separating baffle boxes is to remove debris, sediment, oils and/or other materials from stormwater prior to discharge into a receiving water body. Thus, the more material removed by these devices, the better the water quality. Frequent inspection and maintenance is the key to the proper function of these units. All stormwater inlets and baffle boxes located within the City limits are shown on the attached map. Inspections: Stormwater inlets and baffle boxes are inspected semi-annually, unless historic operations indicate that a less or more frequent inspection schedule is needed for specific stormwater inlets and baffle boxes. Inspections are conducted in accordance with the stormwater inlets and baffle boxes manufacturer’s recommendations. In general, inspections will include the items listed on the following Structural Control Inspection Form. The anticipated inspection schedule follows. Maintenance: There are several maintenance activities that may be associated with stormwater inlets and baffle boxes. The appropriate activity is chosen to correspond to the reported condition. The following activities may be required: Remove trash and debris from system and dispose of properly. Remove accumulated vegetative matter and dispose of properly. Remove accumulated sediment and dispose of properly. Replace absorbent materials as required. Repair damage to structure, inflow or outflow pipes. Documentation: The documentation for the inspection and maintenance activities related to stormwater inlets and baffle boxes should be maintained on the City’s shared drive in the folder labeled “Stormwater Inlets/Baffle Boxes”. Inspection forms and reports documenting any stormwater inlets/baffle boxes repairs/upgrades should be scanned and placed in the “Stormwater Inlets/Baffle Boxes” folder.
