A/C, WATER HEATER, AND ELECTRICAL PANEL PERMITS

A/C, water heater, and electrical panel permits do not need to be reviewed by the Plans
Examiner and can be issued immediately. These permits are the simplest permits issued; all
other permit types have to be reviewed by the Plans Examiner and are more complex to issue
(therefore, those permits are discussed in a separate SOP named Permits).
All permits have to notarized. City of Cape Canaveral does not require the homeowner to sign
the permit. The qualifying contractor, or authorized person signs the permit (see side note on
Annual Authorization forms).
Log into Springbrook.
Under the Process menu, click on Building Permits module.
Under the Maintenance menu, click on the Permits option. The main menu permit screen
will appear.
Make sure the permit application is not a duplicate request by entering the street number and
name and hit enter. All permits in Springbrook for that specific street number and name will
appear. If the permit application is not a duplicate, proceed with creating a new permit entry.
Click on the New tab. A new window will appear.
Enter Permit Type:
Click on Permit type and a menu of permit types will appear, click on the row of the permit
type request.
o Residential A/C permits are entered as Mechanical residential permits.
o Commerical A/C permits are entered as Mechanical commercial permits.
o Residential water heater permits are entered as Plumbing residential permits.
o Commercial water heater permits are entered as Plumbing commercial permits.
o Electrical permits are entered as Electrical, regardless of residential or commercial.
Enter Lot Number:
o Check to see if lot number already exists (in Springbrook) for the specific location. If not,
create one.
o If property has a unit number, format the address as: 8000 Ridgewood Ave Unit #300
o If property has a suite number, format the address as: 8000 Astronaut Blvd Ste #A
o Use abbreviations for Street (St), Avenue (Ave), Boulevard (Blvd), Circle (Cir), Lane (Ln)
o See side notes on lot numbers.
Enter Customer Number (which is the contractor's name).
o Check to see if customer number already exists (in Springbrook) for the contractor. If
not, create one.
o See side notes on customer numbers.
Enter Project Cost: this is the value of the job.
Enter Application Date: this is the date the application was received and date stamped.
Enter the Issue date (this date has to be updated to the date the permit is paid for – which
starts the 6 month time period). *****once convert to permit has been clicked on.
In the Permit Description box type:
o A/C change out
o A/C change out (condenser only). If applicable
o Replace water heater

o Replace electrical panel (list the amps)
Enter General Contractor:
A new screen will appear.
Click on the Refresh button, this will allow all existing contractors (set up in Springbrook) to be
displayed.
Highlight the appropriate contractor and click on OK, this will populate the contractors
information on the to the General tab. If the contractor is not listed, you will need to add the
contractor.

Click on Save. This allows the permit entry to be retrieved in Springbrook.
Skip the Valuation tab
Click on the Fee tab:
Click on Inspection tab: regardless of permit (A/C, water heater, or electrical panel), the
only inspection would a Final (FN). If project cost is over $7500, add NOC.
Skip the Comment tab unless you need to add a special note.
Skip the Alert tab.
Click on Misc tab.
Go back to General tab and click on Convert To Permit button. Enter the permit number on the permit
application and on the Project Tracking spreadsheet.
Click on the Form tab
o Inspection card is not needed on these types of permits.
click on Permit. Review the permit and make sure all required information is listed, if so, print
out the permit in black and white only & current page only.

Authorization Forms –
The form is authorizes specific person(s) to pick up/pay the permit application.
The City encourages contractors to use the City's Annual Authorization form, however, the City
will accept contractor's letterhead form.
The qualifying contractor must sign the form.
Form must be notarized.
Form can list up to six people and is valid for a period of 12 rolling months.
