CAPE CANAVERAL VISION STATEMENT
WE ENVISION: A bike-able and walk-able Cape Canaveral that retains and enhances its residential
feel, characterized by low-rise buildings not more than 4 stories in height. This residential and business friendly atmosphere is one of a live-able, attractive, safe, secure and sustainable coastal community that
embraces the beach and riverside as the main amenities, and supports local culture and education.
WE ENVISION: A1A as a “complete street” with a native-landscaped and tree-lined median with traffic calming elements and dark-sky street lighting. “Complete street” amenities include bicycle
facilities, covered transit stops, and safe pedestrian crossings that invite pedestrians and bicyclists to access the beach, river, local neighborhoods and adjacent communities. Our improved “complete streets” will allow us to calmly travel to intimate waterfront destinations and a walk-able downtown core. Multi-
use paths lined with shade trees should be wide enough for bikes and pedestrians and lighted so anyone can walk or bicycle safely anywhere in town, day or night.
WE ENVISION: Welcoming community entrance features that create a sense of arrival and unique
community identity. The “downtown” will contain an architecturally rich and unique mix of uses, with
wide tree shaded sidewalks and umbrella covered café tables at restaurants and bistros where friends gather, interact, and enjoy drinks and dinner.
WE ENVISION: A community that; removes or transforms blighted and unfinished buildings into
attractive structures, offers city-wide green spaces, provides a pet-friendly park with ample shade, and actively recruits and supports businesses that enhance economic viability and serve our residents and
visitors.
WE ENVISION: Open shorelines and rivers accessible to the public including amenities that take advantage of the water, such as limited and quaint water-view establishments and intimate public
gathering and entertainment places that may include pavilions, gazebos, or a performance stage.

• Our contracted Branding Partner, Prismatic, Inc., conducted a successful/well-attended City
Branding Initiative Community Workshop at the Florida Beer Company. The City has embarked
upon a campaign to capitalize on its underutilized name association. The City of Cape Canaveral is a name known across the globe and the Branding Initiative is our “story of us” to the world.
How we choose to position that message will be the result of the creative talent entrusted to
Prismatic. The Branding Initiative is an outgrowth of our 2009 Visioning Effort. The Visioning Statement created the toolbox and is the cornerstone document that has given birth to many of our
greatest accomplishments over the last 5 years: CRA, Brownfield, EOOD and now, the latest tool - Branding. Branding is the most important thing an Economic Development Organization can do because it tells site selectors that we know what we are trying to be. Your brand is what they
say about you when you’re not around. It is a part of the marketing process. However, the difference between Branding and Marketing is this: Marketing is how you communicate, Branding is who you are.
The Prismatic deliverables will include:
o Visuals (Logo options)
o Font sections, brand story, color palette for releases, stationery, business cards, newsletters, etc
o Key messages, Tagline, keywords/vocabulary o Video: A sizzle reel that we’ll use in marketing and outreach efforts and online and social media.
o Brand Standards Manual with guidelines for cohesive use
We also intend to expand the deliverables to include: o Website design
o Wayfinding Program - will likely tie into our community’s history with the Port and the early days of the space program, with perhaps space relics-as-art wayfinding markers and signage
Throughout the process our focus has been on Community Engagement. From Brand Ambassadors handing out surveys at Friday Fests to the recent Community Workshop, the
Campaign has been well-received. An example of an unsolicited comment resulting from the Branding Workshop:
“I thoroughly enjoyed attending the very successful and productive branding workshop last night. Having a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, I would love
to become more integrally involved in this process as it moves forward. Thank you again for your efforts!”
Staff has received many positive comments about the Workshop. We were pleasantly surprised
to hear comments about reaching out to a broader cross-section of the City who might not otherwise attend a meeting at a City facility. Prismatic is scheduled to present a status update at
the February 17th City Council Meeting.
• Continued the implementation of our departmental restructuring. Activities included: relocation
of Economic Development Director to City Hall, meetings with Community Development Director and Building Official on various projects/issues as well as ongoing new employee
training.
• Met with the new Director of the Tourism Development Council. We agreed to work toward the ideal of creating and maintaining a positive, effective and reciprocal relationship between our
organizations.
• Attended Emergency Operations Team meeting.
• Attended EDC Investor Update, attached documents: Space Coast Headlight; FY14/15 Management Metrics; and Overview of Programs
