Subject: Reducing VRFs on A1A
Dave,
I received a call from Tom Hermansen about an idea he has to develop
one of his vacant parcels and reduce the presence of Vehicle Rental
Facilities (VRFs) on A1A:
* Develop a multi-flag Vehicle Rental Facility on his 5-acre M1
property south of the Port Fire Station.
It would primarily serve the Port.
He thinks he can get most of them except Hertz at the Residence Inn.
Evidently Hertz has a longer term contract they can’t or won’t break.
He knows the situation with Enterprise and he must’ve already spoken
with Dollar & Budget.
His problem: Sec. 110-556 limits VRF’s to C1 & C2 property, and only
by special exception. A condition is that they must be separated by at
least 1/3 of a mile. Hertz is within a 1/3 mile of his property.
My suggestion: Being mindful of the potential uses along the future
Port Connector Road, we could accommodate with a code change to allow
VRF’s as a permitted use in M1. We wouldn’t want to include it in the
overlay.
Ideas?
Todd
