HomeMy WebLinkAboutRE Concerns About Palm Tree TrimmingMr. Bedwell; I agree with your observation about an arborist knowing
better. And I am sure that the actual person doing the trimming which
is the Contract Yard service that has the Contract this year, has
already been corrected with the proper method. Thank You for the
approval on the Banana River Park. Rocky

Thanks Rocky. Mr. Surprenant said he passed my concern and info to the
City Arborist, Tim Carlisle. Sure would like to hear what he says
because you’d think he’d know better:) Don’t get me wrong, we have some
very good folks working for the city. I’ve worked with a number of them
when representing our condo association in regards to the Banana River
Park improvements, which turned out fantastic.
Thanks again,
Bill B.

Mr. Bedwell; Thank you for sending us the information on the desired
and correct method to trim our Palms. I also viewed the link to the
video and found it very valuable also. An important point was discussed
about never using Boot Spikes on Palms; ( which I saw our contractor
using to trim the very, very, tall “Washington Palms” on East Central
Blvd., where I live.) Again, may I personally Thank You for being
concerned about the place we call our home, and preserving the reason we
choose this area. Rocky Randels, City Council Person

Subject: Concerns About Palm Tree Trimming
Mr. Surprenant:
Watching the city’s contractor trimming our palm trees yesterday
triggered my ongoing concern about this practice, as discussed in an
article published in Florida Today a few months ago, which was written
by a University of Florida horticulturist. I’ve attached the article
for your information. In addition, a UF Extension Service video on the
topic can be viewed at the web-link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt76hXRHBoA
I’ve also attached a photo of trees that were trimmed in Banana River
Park on Monday.
I believe that we could save a lot of money and save our palm trees if
we follow the University of Florida’s guidance.
