Ms. Olzewski will be overseeing both Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral Libraries, There is a possibility of Ms. Wehking staying at Port St. John Library, Ms. Wehking reported that the stats are down slightly; 4% on attendance and I% on checkout. February was busy last year, and we are looking forward to this year's statistics. Programs have been well attended, The book club's most recent meeting had 21 people in attendance. It's a really great group. We had an impromptu visit from the fire truck when a toddler pulled the fire alarm at storytime. The firemen were very patient and showed all the toddlers and parents the fire track, The budget is fine and we are still using city money. The staffis the same with no changes. Patrons have been very complimentary about the library and the staff. The Friends of the Library purchased a double sided digital sign to replace the old sign in front of the library. The cost was $16,000.00, and it will be installed in a month. Ms. Weliking is waiting for the county IT department to coordinate with the sign company regarding software. The sign has been coordinated with the city and they will provide the insurance. The city will use it to advertise their events. The sign will only be on during work hours. Access to the software will be on the reference computers. Mr. Vergara reported that Cape Canaveral Library events are being included in the city's weekly update (delivered via e-mail). Ms. Donna Murray handles the advertising for Cape Canaveral Library events. Mr. Vergara suggested that we send our library events via press releases to Space Coast Government Television for more coverage. Mr. Moe volunteered to help with this and will meet with Ms. Murray. The Friends of the Library does put the monthly newsletter into the hold books, and leaves the newsletter out front for patrons. Also suggested we post flyers for events in stores, but that takes manpower which the library doesn't have. Ms. Olzewski mentioned that Randy Wayne White will be at Cape Canaveral Library with his latest book on March 281h, 2 pm. He usually does these events at Cocoa Beach Library, but due to some conflicts in schedules, it was moved to this library. The Cocoa Beach staff will be here to set up and assist during the event. Mr. Vergara mentioned that the Annual Trash Bash would be held before Founder's Day, Founder's Day is on April I" at Manatee Park. Congratulations to Mr. Vergara and his family on their newest addition! Friends of the Library Report Ms. Deck reported that the Friends of the Library received $14,500.00 dollars and spent $11,400.00. This included quite a bit of furniture from the last I '/2 years. The checking balance is a little over$17,000.00. The big sale in December isn't doing as well as it has in years past. It's hurt by lack of dealers and the increase in electronic books. It was suggested doing away with the big sale and just having bag sales and lobby sales. The next bag sale is scheduled for March 9", 10"' and I I th. The library shelf brought in $600.00 last month. We are currently selling romance novels for 250 a piece. Only just over 50% of donations are actually usable. The Friends are getting fewer also. There is a lot of help with sales, but not much help with day to day activities. 2 Ms.Brittany Wilson presented the memo for this year's projected amount needed for the children's summer programs, Currently amount is $1,800 and she is still booking performers. The teen program starts back in May as the teens are too busy during the school year to participate. The cost will be $20.00 a month for three months. This is funded by the Friends of the Library and money from the VFW. Ms. Zyhowski suggested adding a program for tutoring teens. Ms. Wilson will look into it.
