Projects
Manatee Sanctuary Park — Thanks to a program administered by Career Source Brevard, the City
was provided with free staff labor and tools to assist with hurricane clean-up/repairs. The perimeter
vegetation screening/fence line that used to exist on the east side of the property line at the Park
was replaced with a beautiful two rail fence. Park neighbors have complimented the City on the
replacement as it has visually opened the Park to passerby's/residents along Thurm Boulevard.
Clean-up of the south property line where many trees had fallen was also completed using this
program.

Meet Me at the Park Contest - Parks are the cornerstone of nearly every community. They serve
millions as places to get active, inspire healthy living, connect with nature and gather with loved
ones to make memories and have a blast. By their nature, parks make our lives and communities
better. When we support local parks, we help the environment, economy and our health thrives.
We need your help so a Cape Canaveral park can win $20,000 in the #MeetMeAtThePark contest!

Canaveral Maker Space Meeting — A Makerspace brainstorm meeting took place at the Recreation
Complex on Thursday. To describe them simply, makerspaces are community centers with tools.
Makerspaces combine manufacturing equipment, community and education for the purposes of
enabling community members to design, prototype and create manufactured works that wouldn't
be possible to create with the resources available to individuals working alone. These spaces can
take the form of loosely -organized individuals sharing space and tools, for -profit companies, non-
profit corporations, organizations affiliated with or hosted within schools, universities or libraries,
and more. All are united in the purpose of providing access to equipment, community and
education, and all are unique in exactly how they are arranged to fit the purposes of the community
they serve. Makerspaces represent the democratization of design, engineering, fabrication and
education.

Bat Conservation Workshop — Did you know a single little brown bat (myotis) can eat up to 1,000
mosquitoes in a single hour, and is one of the world's longest -lived mammals for its size, with life
spans of almost 40 years? How about that bats are more closely related to humans and other
primates than they are to rodents? They're really incredible animals and the public got to see them
up close and personal at the Library during the workshop.
Mural Unveiling at the Cape Canaveral Library - The Friends of the Library invited residents and
guests to view th brand new mural in the Children's area painted by famous local artist Rick Piper.
The Friends commissioned Mr. Piper because of his expertise in painting local nature themed
scenes. The mural reflects some of our area's most precious residents and will take you on a 360
dregree journey from beach to Space Center. The open house took place in conjunction with the
Student Art Show. Mr. Piper was on site for the showcase and displayed some of his other amazing
works.
