Canaveral City Park Redevelopment
The City acquired a Community Planning Technical Assistance Grant from the State to create a
Citywide Mobility Master Plan and a Master Redevelopment Plan for Canaveral City Park. The
first step included a needs survey to identify deficiencies in the Park, underutilized amenities,
barriers to mobility within the Park and desired amenities for redevelopment. A wide demographic
from the community were selected to participate in the survey and the result yielded a Master Plan
which was unveiled at a public meeting on February 22nd. The Master Plan addresses mobility by
connecting the Park from all directions and allows for pedways throughout. It addresses highly
desired amenities from the community like a children/family splash pad, a skate park, gathering
areas for passive recreation, improved playground equipment that can also be used by teens and a
Multigenerational Center for indoor recreation and events. The Master Plan was very well received
by attendees and there was excitement as to what the future of the Park could be.
Tennis Court Lk ht Maintenance
Staff braved the chilly temperatures in early February to do some much needed maintenance on
the tennis court lights at the Nancy Hanson Recreation Complex. Age, weather and the corrosive
beachside environment make such repairs a necessity to keep things in good working order.

Shuffleboard Season Returns
With the return of our friends from the north, the shuffleboard courts at the Nancy Hanson
Recreation complex are bustling with activity. Every winter, for more than 20 years, groups from
several local condo communities gather at the courts each week for a little friendly competition
and to catch up after the long summer break. Players are enjoying the new shuffleboard equipment
purchased during the off season and Staff has received a great deal of positive feedback regarding
the upgrades made to the Recreation Complex since their last visit. For these seasonal residents,
this facility is an integral part of Cape Canaveral's community identity and embodies the City's
visioning as being a welcoming place for friends to gather, interact and enjoy themselves.

Cultural Programs
Museums of Brevard
Cultural Programs Manager attended her first meeting with the Museums of Brevard organization
to introduce the City as an up-and-coming contributor to the cultural engagement community. As
the City moves forward with its plan to redevelop the existing City Hall facility into a multi -faceted
cultural center, these early networking opportunities will be instrumental in development of a
quality cultural engagement facility. Membership in this organization will pave the way for the
exchange of ideas and diversify future exhibition/partnership opportunities.
Central Brevard Art Association Art Show
The 15th annual CBAA Fine Art Show boasted its most successful year! With more than 30 juried
artists, this event showcased the artistic talents of the Central Brevard Art Association and raised
funds for CBAA's Student Art Scholarship Fund.
Brevard County Historical Commission
At the February 28th meeting of the Brevard County Historical Commission (BCHC), City Cultural
Programs Manager and District #2 representative, Molly Thomas was elected to serve as Vice -
Chairperson of the BCHC. As an active member since March of 2015, Ms. Thomas has written
numerous articles for both of the Commission's local history publications, assisted with the
acquisition of two State historical markers and has represented the BCHC at several local events -
most recently at Monday's re -dedication of Titusville's Veterans Memorial Fishing Pier. Ms.
Thomas is honored by this appointment and looks forward to helping the Commission achieve its
2017 goals of expanding the Oral History Project and acquiring more State Historical Markers for
sites here in Brevard County.
