MEETING MINUTES
FEBRUARY 11, 2016
A Meeting of the Cape Canaveral Library Board was held on February 11, 2016, at the Cape
Canaveral Public Library, 201 Polk Avenue, Cape Canaveral, Florida. The meeting was called to
Order at 2:00 p.m,by Chairperson Marilyn Nicholas.

ACTION/DISCUSSION ITEMS:
1. Approval of Meeting Minutes of October 29, 2015
Motion by Mr. Moe, seconded by Ms. Deck to approve the Special Meeting Minutes of October
29, 2015 as written. Vote on the motion carried unanimously.
2. Staff Reports
Ms. Wehking introduced the new Library Director, Lisa Olzewski, and the new Secretary, Sharon
Pribil to the group. She reported that Ms. Cara Reddington-Kincaid has submitted her resignation
effective February 24, 2016. Ms. Reddinton-Kincaid will be continuing with Storytime as a
volunteer for a few months. The furniture for the Teen area renovation that the Friends of the
Library provided has been delivered and set up. Programming is going well. Cape Canaveral
Public Library had the Yd highest attendance in Brevard County for January. Watercolors classes,
movie nights, the Blue Grass music program all helped with the number. The Book Club has
stared, and there were 18 people at the first meeting. Ms. Donna Murray held the first computer
class on February 9th, and people were raving about it. Circulation and Patron counts were down
in January. February numbers are up quite a bit. There were 800 people through the door on
Saturday,February 6th. Ms.Wehking talked with a docent at the Space History Museum regarding
a Space History collection. He went on line to ask people for donations, and several books and
memorabilia have been received for the new Space History collection. The city bought 4 new
computes to replace the 4 old ones. Rick Smith will be here on the 20 of March to present
"Cowboys and Native Americans of Florida". Mr. Moe asked Rick Foglesong to present a non-
partisan program about the presidential election. The program is scheduled for February 20th. Ms.
Donna Murray is taking care of the publicity.
Ms. Olzewski talked about the capital improvement spreadsheet that the county recently sent
around to the library directors for input. Cape Canaveral Public Library needs new flooring. Mr.
Vergara will check to see who paid for the carpet in the meeting room as it's different from the
rest of the library. There was some discussion about what the county pays for (inside the walls)
and what the city pays for(outside the walls) regarding the library. Mr. Vergara will get a copy
of the city insurance policy to Ms. Olzewski.
Mr. Vegara mentioned that parking around the library will be getting really crazy within a month
or so when the city begins building the new city hall. Mr. Vegara also asked that we let his office
know about programs that can be added to the calendar. He mentioned that Ms. Molly Thomas
was the person who makes sure the library notices are in the paper.
3. Friends of the Library Report
Ms. Deck reviewed her Friends of the Library Report and reported the following: the current
account balance is $23,000. There is $22,000 in CD's and interest. The January deposit was
$1,000, which is a record. The furniture for the Children's area is here and has been installed.
$2,000 — 3,000 remain to spend. The book sale took in $600 and all books are gone. The next
sale is the first weekend in April. All the other scheduled sales are on the library and city calendars.
The Cape Canaveral Beach Resort donation purchased the new play tree in the Children's area.
The Friends of the Library purchased the blinds in the staff lounge and a new display stand. Ms.
Ernst asked that we use more musical programs and fewer speakers.
Ms.Nicholas reported that the VFW Christmas party was a big success. Ms. Reddington-Kincaid
reported the results of the summer reading program at the last VFW meeting. The ladies auxiliary
presented a $1,000 check to the Friends of the Library for Children's programs.
OLD BUSINESS:
None to report
NEW BUSINESS:
- Ms. Olzewski suggested there by a Friends of the Library"meet and greet" event for the
Advisory Board from Cape Canaveral Public Library and Cocoa Beach Public Library.
- Motion by Ms. Deck to keep the officers as currently listed. Ms. Reid seconded. The
officers are as follows:

o Vice Chairperson—Alden Moe
o Secretary—Jean Deck

- The vacant Board position will remain vacant until nominations/applications have been
received and reviewed. Mr. Vegara reminded everyone there is an application on the city
website.
Discussed several ideas for fund raisers. More information is needed before a decision
can be reached.
Ms. Nicholas reminded members that the next meeting is scheduled for May 12, 2016.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 3:15 p.m.
