HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 08-9-2016CULTURE AND LEISURE SERVICES BOARD MEETING MINUTES AUGUST 9, 2016 A Meeting of the Culture and Leisure Services Board was held on August 9, 2016, at the Cape Canaveral Public Library, 201 Polk Avenue, Cape Canaveral, Florida. The meeting was called to Order at 5:30 p.m. by Chairperson Gene Petre, The Secretary called the roll. MEMBERS PRESENT Gene Petre Douglas Raymond John Dattilo Maureen Michel Marlene Woodside Barry Schoenholz MEMBERS ABSENT Mickie Kellum OTHERS PRESENT Gustavo Vergara Patti Roth Chairperson Vice Chairperson Culture & Leisure Services Director Board Secretary ACTION/DISCUSSION ITEMS: . Approval of Meeting Minutes of May 24, 2016 Motion by Ms. Woodside, seconded by Mr. Datillo to approve Meeting Minutes of May 24, 2016 as written. Vote on the motion carried unanimously. 2. Staff Reports Mr. Vergara reviewed his Staff Report and summarized Culture and Leisure Services activities/updates as follows: Phase II at Banana River Park continues, progress on the bocce ball courts has been delayed due to a quality issue with the turf material, Summer Camp program ended August 5, each week reached the full 25 child capacity and proceeded without issue, all scheduled projects are wrapping up to coincide with the end of the Fiscal Year, Staff is submitting for a Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP) grant to facilitate the development of playground facilities at Manatee Sanctuary Park geared towards children with unique abilities, construction at Canaveral City Park is underway including repairs to the concession stand roof and reconstruction of the dugout, Staff is seeking grant funding to assist with the refurbishment of storm damaged shorelines along Manatee Sanctuary Park and Banana River Park, upon approval the project will become a joint endeavor with the Public Works Services Department, the August Friday Fest event was rained out. Mr. Petre thanked Mr. Vergara for his Report. OLD BUSINESS: • Ms. Woodside inquired about playground equipment at Manatee Sanctuary Park. • Mr. Petre inquired about progress on the Community Garden project. • Ms. Michel inquired about future dates for Founders Day. • Ms, Woodside suggested details of t-shirt artwork contest at Founders Day. NEW BUSINESS • Inclement weather forced the postponement of the scheduled facilities tour. • Tour rescheduled for the September 29 meeting. • Motion by Ms. Michel to move the venue of the Culture and Leisure Services Board meetings to the Nancy Hanson Recreation Complex, on the last Thursday of every other month. Motion seconded by Mr. Shoenholtz. Vote on the motion carried unanimously. Mr. Petre reminded members that the next meeting of the Culture and Leisure Services Board is Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. at the Recreation Department.
