HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board 1978 MinutesCape Canaveral Public Library Board Meeting January 10, 1978 10 AM The meeting was called to order ato 10:03 by Chairman Goff. Present were H. goff, E. Butte, B. Rogers and I. Sanders, Library director. MInutes of Jan. 14th meeting were read and with the dollar amount of the 1977 Christmas bonus to Library Director and Staff added, were approved. Director's Report: 69 new books plus 10 from McNaughton and 28 large print books were put on the shelves. 80 new books on order from Erodart and 69 paper backs from Bookhen were ordered in Dec. Delivery has improved. $306.30 in fines, etc. were sent to the coordinators office. Circualtion is up over Nov by 15 books Expired library cards - 90; new registration - 79 (permanent residents renewed after 3 years; others after 1 year) Children's Christmas party was a great success. 125 children attended in 2 shifts, each group decorated a tree, and seemed to enjoy it. They were served orange punch from McDonalds and lollipops from the National Bank of Cape Canaveral. Each child went home with a small gift (from reserves) Inez Foreland, our very pleasant and terrific Front Desk Clerk will be leaving the library Wed, Dec 11th for a permanent full time position. We are sorry to lose her but the new job is to her advantage. Termporarily we have a new Front Desk Clerk, Michelle McIntosh, until we know what Wanda is going to do. (on 6 months maternity leave) We have a new mainstream employee, Tonie Taylor, who has much library experience will work in any spot. The radio program, join effort of Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral Library Director's is progressing. To be presented at Co. Lib. Directors meeting. unreadable, the unexpectedly huge preparations will be shard. There were no meetings in Dec. Report was accepted and approved. Correspondence: 2 letters of application for board vacancies were received. Mrs. Schreiber and Mrs. Ferro will be invited will be invited to the Feb meeting Vacancies will be posted for another month. Possible book sale - mayber at parking lot at Duval Bank, across from City Hall could be used on craft day. Mrs. Butte questioned the propriety of the change of monthly meeting date as recorded in minutes of Nov 14th meeting. (NO motion or seconding was recorded) Mrs. Butte moved that the regular and annual meetings of the Cape Canaveral Public Library Board return to the 2nd mon of each month as per a by-law change made at the oct 12th 1977 meeting. Was not seconded. (motion and vote not neede if vote at Nov 14th 1977 meetin is null and void because of a technicality of recording) Meeting adjourned at 10:48 AM next meeting Feb 13, 1978 at 10 AM Hilma Goff, Chairman Beryl Rogers, Secretary Cape Canaveral Public Library Board Meeting April 10, 1978 The meeting was called to order at 9:55 AM by Chairman Goff. Present were Mrs. goff, Mrs. rose, Mrs. Butte, Miss Rogers and Mrs. Sanders, LD, guests were Mrs. Elizabeth Holmes and Mrs. Mary Mellugh. Minutes of March 10 th meeting were read, discussed and approved. Directors' Report: 40 new books were put on the shelves, 75 books on order. $239.30 in fines and fees were sent to the Coordinators office; total in Cape Canaveral Public Library account is approximately $3033 as of March 1978 In March, circulation was up, new registrations were down. Report of National Library Week programs was given' Programs held at the Cape Canaveral Public Library during National Library week were as a whole successful. The table of displays at the Cape canaveral arts and crafts day (3-31) drew only mild interest. However, over 300 children attended activites at the library. In March, 8 movies were shown for children, 3 for adults and there were 6 other programs well attended. Status of Library Personnel was discussed. Wanda Frazier chose not to return to work at the library. Michele Mc Intosh walked out. The desk is covered by 2 girls, working split shifts for a total of 70 hours Barbara Syms is doing the secretarial work. Coordinator's office is working on a book count (pre computer). A new program "Youth Program" has been added to "Mainstream" and CETA. unreadable was approved. Letter of application to serve on the Cape Canaveral Public Library Board from Mary McHugh was read. MRs. Sanders requested a letter be sent to Sgt Dan Tucker of the Sheriff's Dept in appreciation of his participation in National Library Week. The letter sent to the Sheriff's Dept (copy attached) Mrs. Sanders requested an expression of condolence be sent to former Board member Tillie Schwartz. The April 20th County Library Board meeting will behld at the Cape Canaveral Recreation Hall at 8pm. The by-laws of the Cape Canaveral Public Library Board wer discussed at a 3rd reading motion of adoption was made by Mrs. Rose, seconded by Mrs. Butte, motion carried unanimously. Signed and dated copies will be sent to city hall and the coordinator's office. Copies of Trusteeship were discussed with Mary McHugh. Mrs. Butte moved Mrs. McHughs name be recommended to City council to fill the vacancy on the Cape Canaveral Public Library Board; Ms. Rogers Seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. Letter to be sent to City Hall (copy attached) Unreadable plans for a new site for the Library were discussed. Mrs. Sanders described how the offer from George Firkin came about. She mad arrangements to show the site to Mrs. Butte, who with her expertise in Real Estate, could make more pertinent suggestions than the other board members, who have seen the building. Mrs. Goff reported on her conversation with Mayor Ann Thurm, who cautioned to proceed slowly. Letters with all information Pro and Con to be sent to council members previous to presentation at a Council worksho meeting. Mrs. Butte moved an invitaiton to each Council member and all interested parties (building , planning board,etc) to meet at a given date and time to inspect the site. Mrs. Rose seconded the motion. Motion carried. Mrs. Butte volunteered and was unanimously elected to write the letters, (Ms. Rogers mad the motion, Mrs. Rose seconded it) Meeting adjourned at 11:30 AM Next meeting May 9, 1978 at 9:30 AM HIlma Goff, Chairman Beryl Rogers Secretary CAPE CANAVERAL PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING OCTOBER 10, 1978 9:30AM Chairman Goff opened the meeting at 9:35 AM. Attendance Signed. Minutes of May 9th read and approved. Secretary to post notice of meetings at City Hall, also, in "Today" newspaper (Ron Thornberg, city Editor, checked by E. Butte - Called by Secretary on Oct 10th) "Palms East Office Bldg, 211 Caroline St., Cape Canaveral; 2nd Tuesday of the month - 9:30 AM" Director's Report: Did not get cut too much in Library System's Budget. Children's Summer Party was a success - 100 or more attended, enjoyed a puppet show and games, each went home with a prize. Has cancelled McNaughton books - became too costly, can do better with discount from a jobber and own the books. 75 new books have been ordered. Cocoa Beach Library (Ruth Milliken) sent Cape Canaveral Library a box of ID frames for stacks - more available if needed. Cocoa Beach Jr. Women's Club has made offer of help - requested a list of things desired (Library Director has done so) as a private project have offered to proved artifical greenery for planter near Direcotr's office. As of August statement - $591.22 in the bank. Report was discussed and approved. No correspondence - Announcement A lady is interested in forming a "Friends of the Library" group. Mrs. Sanders will report progress at the Nov. meeting. No unfinished business. Mrs. Butte motioned that $70 from City Library fund be transferred to City of Cape Canaveral to pay for tile floor section at the new site. Mrs. Rogers 2nd; motion carried. Notice sent (copy attached) Letters of appreciation (for work done in moving library) were signed and delivered to the Library Staff; aslo to City Hall personel to be sent to Coordinator's office and to George Firkins uses of All-Purpose room was discussed Mrs. Sanders i to check on available hours, number of people permitted Mrs. Butte to contact possibilities, Bridge clubs, Sr. City organizations, etc. Open House Discussed. Tea is desirable but no money available was tabled. Suggestions: notice to be put in books checked out invitations to silver tea donations acceptable Christmas bonus: Library Director Irene Sanders $300 Barbara Sims $50 Circulation Clerk, Ann Coyle $25 5 part-time girls, $20 each $100 $475 total Mrs. Rogers motioned so, Ms. Butte 2nd; carried. Letter of request to be sent to City Hall.
