Exterior stucco work on pavilion is nearly complete; sidewalk around parking lot and paving will be finished within two weeks. Staff is currently working on the purchase of landscaping and site amenities. voyoll Pl� Athletic Leagues A new Monday morning senior tennis league started up with 26 players ready for a friendly morning of tennis. Monday night advanced tennis continued with the second week of the season. Wednesday night intermediate tennis is just getting started with players enjoying the cooler temperatures. Advanced Wednesday night racquetball is over the half way point of the season with last season's winner remaining in the lead. Wednesday night kickball completed another competitive night of play with several weeks to go before the playoffs begin. Thursday night intermediate tennis finished the second week of the season with new players excited to meet and play. Staff continues to register players and teams for Monday night kickball and Thursday night softball with both leagues starting at the end of the month. Classes and Programs Movement Strength & Balance We would like to invite all of you to a brand new class sure to bring in a healthy new year. Certified Personal Trainer Catrell Cooney will guide you through exercises geared for all fitness levels. Starting in February, this introductory class offers students a unique fitness opportunity that carries an exciting cultural component which transcends the average aerobics workout. Classes will be held Tuesdays from 10:45-11:45 am and will cost participants $5 per class. Beginner Bellydance Class A 4-week series of classes geared for beginners with no previous bellydance experience. Each class you will learn new techniques and movements focusing on hips, arms, traveling gracefully and using tills. Concept reviews, simple choreographies and lots of fun! Special Events Light Up Cape Canaveral Despite the 5 minute cloud burst, this year's "Light Up Cape Canaveral" was a success. The performances by Cocoa Beach High's 40 student string orchestra & The Dickens Carolers were throroughly enjoyed by all in attendance. The crowd cheered at the lighting up of Xeriscape Park. Guests also enjoyed holiday refreshments served by BSCO P.A.L. volunteers and a kids craft station hosted by Cape Canaveral Public Library staff. The evening ended with a much anticipated visit from Santa Claus, brought over by the Cape Canaveral Fire Rescue squad. mm. Movie in the Park The December showing of "MAX" was cancelled due to the unseasonably wet weather conditions and will instead be shown February 19th at Canaveral City Park. Despite the threat of rain, the January 15th showing of "PAN' was enjoyed by all who attended. OPP art as urauetat ei .u�ro'11r 20th Annual Reindeer Run/Walk The 20th annual 5K Run/Walk took place on December 12th and over 650 runners/walkers participated, raising over $12,500 for the Brevard County Police Athletic League (PAL). Like previous years, the Reindeer Run/Walk partnered with local race directors in the Beach Classic Series which included the "Fall into Winter 5K" and the "Turkey Trot 5K". For the second year, BCSO PAL organized the event with support from the City. uuu Beach Cleanups Everyone is invited to attend the monthly beach clean-ups at Cherie Down Park. All ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult. These events are community service eligible for those seeking to fulfill required hours. Keep Brevard Beautiful and the Sea Turtle Preservation Society provide the support and supplies for these events. The next series of clean- ups will be held: February 6th, March 5th and April 9th. Street Eats on Taylor Ave In order to preserve the novelty and maintain the draw of this one of a kind food experience, the event coordinators at Food Truck Luaus and the City have reached a mutual agreement to host this event on a quarterly basis. Each event will feature new trucks with original gourmet dishes to experience. With Bavarian style tables and light music, this family friendly event has an amazing ambiance that encourages positive community engagement. The next Street Eats Event is scheduled for April 9th. Friday Fest The last Friday Fest of 2015 was a hit. The entertainment that evening, provided by local music sensation, "Hot Pink" was very well received. Proceeds from the beer and wine sales benefited the Cape Canaveral Soccer Club. The next Friday Fest will be held February 5th on Taylor Avenue from 6 to lopm with entertainment provided by "Carolyn and the Dawn Patrol". Proceeds from the beer and wine sales will benefit Cape Canaveral Soccer Club. Cape Canaveral Bikercade All are invited to join a one mile community bike ride from Cherie Down Park to the Cape Canaveral Public Library on Saturday February 13th at 10 am. As part of a pathways awareness initiative from the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization, this ride will showcase Cape Canaveral' s current bicycle paths and planned expansions coming to the City. Once at the library, participants are invited enjoy a poster exhibit featuring the history of mobility in Cape Canaveral. This free event is open to cyclists of all ages; walkers and strollers are also welcome. Well versed in organizing team sports and a veteran local league player, she has been tasked with overseeing the City' s Kickball and Softball Leagues. Cultural Resources Carter Fuller Mounds State Historical Marker Unveiling More than 25 people were in attendance on Wednesday, December 16th for the unveiling of the City' s first Florida Heritage Marker. Mayor Bob Hoog, with the assistance of former Mayor Rocky Randels, unveiled the marker. The event was covered by several local news outlets and was attended by members of the Brevard County Historical Commission along with other City and County dignitaries. Cape Canaveral Public Library Friends of the Library The Friends of the Library will be hosting a "Bag Sale" February 5th-6th. CBAA Fine Art Show and Sale The Central Brevard Art Association is hosting its 14th annual Fine Art Show and Sale February 12-14th.
