HomeMy WebLinkAboutDomestic Violence Awareness Month October 'sl E ads •�r �• #144 (� n ,I in . • - _ Prorlamation CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL I/ lj Cape �a s � 3 i a g , WHEREAS, the City of Cape Canaveral recognizes the month of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month; and WHEREAS, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office Canaveral Precinct hosted National Night Out on October 6, 2015; and WHEREAS, on average nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this totals to more than 10 million women and men; and WHEREAS, sexual violence affects women, men and children of all racial, social, religious, ethnic and economic groups in our community. Domestic violence violates an individual's privacy, dignity, security, and humanity, due to the systematic use of physical, emotional, sexual, psychological and economic control and/or abuse; and WHEREAS, the majority of domestic violence victims are women and domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women; and WHEREAS, every person has the right to live their life free from the threat of abuse and violence; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rocky Randels, Mayor of the City of Cape Canaveral, Brevard County, Florida, do hereby proclaim October 2015 as DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH in the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida,and urge all citizens to actively participate in activities and support programs that work toward improving victim safety and holding perpetrators of domestic abuse and sexual assault accountable for their actions against individual victims and our society as a whole.
