HomeMy WebLinkAboutQuarterly Report Oct 2000RE REATI 0 N 1)1 PARTM t NT QUARTERLY PORT OCT() BE NOVEM R & CEM BER, 2000 The Recreation Department staff maintained a very busy schedule throughout the quarter and the Special Community Events were very diverse. The Youth Center reopened on October 21 . Mike lIammons was hired as the new supervisor. From December 16th-January 2the Center was open from 12 noon-5:00 p.m. daily (exeept Sundays and City Holidays) so the youths would be accommodated during the long school holiday break. They had a Christmas party on December Ifith. Attendance: October - 133 / an average of 16.62 per day November - 2S4/ an average of12.34 per day December - 292/ an average of12.16 per day The V.M.C.A. held a Mall program for 6-10 year olds in October & November at the Little League field at Canaveral City Park. Fifteen youths participated. On October 30th the annual Halloween Haunted Forest was held. Two hundred sixty people (adults & children) toured the forest. (report attache(1) The Recreation Complex's 25' Anniversary Racquetball Tournament was held on November 3, 4 & 5. Seventy-seven players participated throu0out the weekend with nineteen of them residing outside of Brevard County. (report attache(I) The Seniors Health Fair was held on November Sth. Unfortunately, bemuse the flu vaccine was unavailable, the attendance was lower than anticipated. Those who attended, as well as the businesses and service organizations who participated, were pleased and will, 1 am sure, will return again next year. (report attached) The Health Department (lid receive a large shipment of the vaeeine and returned on December 6 to administer the shots to one hundred and seventy people. Little Le ie held a registration day at the lice ation Center in December. Our tennis pro, Tom Ihunlis, moved to asliington State in mid December and a search is underway for a new instructor. The lloliday Tree Lighting Program, held in the Community i nn at the Library, was well a nded. The Cape View Elementary School Rocket Chorus and the Dickens C okrs performed and Santa paid a surprise C.)) visit. (report attached) We rounded out the year 2000 with the 241". Anniversary Celebration at the Recreation Center. Recreation Board members cooked hot dogs and everyone enjoyed the anniversary cake. Courts were open, free of charge, from S:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. ARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW! The 2001 Patriots' Day Parade will be held on Saturday, March 10'. The United States Navy Band has made a tentative •eement to attend again this year, however, they won't make a definite commitment until 30 days prior to the event date. Brevard Youth Soccer Organization will hold registration at the creation Center on Saturday, January 6th from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Gator Bill will be at the 1 10:00 a.m. ation Center on Saturday 3 27th at
