COUNCIL MEETING
APRIL 11, 1962
A regular meeting of the Town Council of Cape Canaveral, Florida,
was held Wednesday, April 11, 1962, in the Recreation Hall of the Cocoa Palms
Trailor Court at 6:30 P.M.
Town Officials Presents: R. A.Jamieson, Mayor
George G. Rogers, Alderman
Wm. J. Eberwein, Alderman
Don Clayton, Alderman
A. D. Anderson, Alderman
C.F. Applegate, Alderman
Jean Taylor, Town Clerk
F. deFuniak, Marshal
The meeting was opened by the President of the Council was
stated that at this time voter registration and been slow and requested the
assistance of the in publicizing the word that our registration books
were now open.
The minutes of the Council Meeting of April 11, 1962 were ?
and on MOTION of Don Clayton, seconded by Andy Anderson end passed unanimously,
were arproved as read.
The Treasurer's report was read and on MOTION of A. Anderson,
seconded by Don Clayton and passed unanimously, it was approved as a read and
bills were ordered paid. A copy of the Treasurer's report is herewith attached.
George Rogers stated that the Oath of Office had been
to Mayor R . A.Jamieson by Wm. O Akridge, Circuit Judge in the Rockledge
Branch Court House on March 13, 1962. He read the oath as given at that time,
and stated that then Mayor Jamieson had in turn Administered the oath to the
five 3 Councilmen, theTown Clerk and the Marshal. A copy of the oath
as sworn to by Mayor, Jamieson to attached herewith.
ORDINANCE NO. 2
THE second reading of Ordinance No. 2 entitled 'An Ordinance
to Forbid and Punish any Act within the City Limits Which Shall be Recognized
By the Laws of Florida As . A Misdemeanor' was given. It was tabled to be read
the third time at the next Council Meeting.

ORDINANCE NO.
ORDINANCE #3 entitled "AN ORDINANCE IMPOSING AN EXCISE OR
PRIVILEGE TAX UPON THE SALE, RECEIPT, PURCHASE, P0SSESSION, CONSUMPTION,
HANDLING, DISTRIBUTION AND USE OF CIGARETTES SOLD OR TO BE SOLD WITHIN THE
TERRITORIAL LIMITS OF CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA,' was given the second reading.
It was tabled to be re-read at the next Council Meeting for the third and
final reading.

Mayor Jamieson stated that he had received two letters,
one from the Assistant Postmaster General, Frederick C. Bolen, stating that
our request for change of the name of the Port Canaveral Post Office had been
received and was under oonsideratlon by the Post Office Department. He also
read a letter from the Joint Impact Committee asking Information of the facilities
in our town.
The Town Council then led a discission of the various new
facilities planned in the Town inculuding Apartment Building shopping centers,
streets, fire department, leasing county property for a city hall and requesting
the name change from Atlantic Avenue to Astronaut Boulevard from the State Road
Board.
The garbage franchise was discussed and it was agreed unanimously
that the letters containing the specifications would be out to the Garbage Dealers
franchised by the County on April 20, 1962 with a request that bids be in to
the Town Council by April 25.
ADJOURNMENT: On MOITION OF Don Clayton, seconded by C. Applegate
the meeting was adjourned.
