IVIEMBER.S ATTENDING: John Daiillo, Cohn Finnegan, Bob Gorham, Regina Renshaw, .Richard Thunn (First Alternate) Matianne Kulac, Bill Schmidt Buil Bruns, City (l'ouncilman Nancy flenson, City Recreation Direclor Leering was called to order by Chairtnafl Colin .Finnegan at 3:00 p.m. ABSENT: ALSO ATTENDING: lead, Harvey Chairman Finnegan introduced .Richard Ilium as a newly appointed -First Alternate Member .to .the .Recreation Board, and confirmed that due to Regular IVIember absences he would be a voting member at this Board Meeting. The Minutes of the September 25, 1995, Meeting were approved as submitted. "fhe results of the Recreation Department 94-95 Budget Year were reviewed and noted to be essentially on target as modified during the year. Recreation Director Henson presented her Activities Report consisting of the following items: 1. 'Hie Fall Classic Doubles Tennis Tournament - 24 entrants participated. 2. 'the Haunted Forest - some 360 persons (7-) attended and volunteer assistance and sponsorships were excellent .for vhat is planned to become an annual Cape Canaveral event. 3. Recreation Center's 20th Anniversary Racquetball Tournament - entry fees and sponsorships more than adequately covered costs for the 49 participants in 82 events. 4. 'The Kid's Fishing Contest - this first time even( was held at the Port, was co -sponsored by the .Fish & Dive Center, and drew 19 participants, ages 6-16. 5. 'Youth Basketball League - started in October and running for 8 weeks, drew 35 children alter school at the Cape Vicw Elementary facility. 6. Youth Advisory Council - after 2 meetings, some 3 members remain and primarily want to play .Board Games in the Recreation Center on Saturday afternoons; plans for chaperons are being made to initiate this new program in January', 1996. 7. FRDAP Grant - City engineers are making drawings and developing bid specifications for the lighting improvement and restroom modifieations at the ball park. 8. Upcoming Events - a first annual Cluistmas Tree lighting for citizens of the City is planned Ibr December 12 al 7:00 p.m. and all Board Members are urged to attend. Under Unfinished Business, Recreation Director Henson reported action for a park in the area of Columbia Drive was still pending site selection. Board Members debated the validity •for the City to proceed with the expenses of .this project without apparent full interestby the residents of .the area, but reached no conclusions. Board Members then reviewed eopies of the City Recreation Director's Quartcrly 'Report (Ibr period ending September 30, 1995). (7,L_E CANAVERAL RECREATION BUAR.D MEETING - November 27„, 1995 (Meeting Minutes Continued) Under New Business, Board .Members reviewed copies of the Recreation and Open Space Element of the Comprehensive Plan. Metnber Renshaw moved to arnend the wording of Policy R2-2 to delete the words "all Governments" and substitute therefore the words "Govermnent agencies". The Board u.nanirn.ously adopted the change. 'Member Renshaw then moved the Board accept the Comprehensive Plan's Goals, Objectives, and Policies with all Recommended Changes and Evaluations as noted thereon. The Board unanimously passed the motion. Also under New Business, the Board elected new oflieers fbr the 95-96 Year.
