MEETING MINUTES
JANUARY 27, 2015
A Meeting of the Culture and Leisure Services Board was held on January 27, 2015, at the Cape
Canaveral Public Library, 201 Polk Avenue, Cape Canaveral, Florida. The meeting was called
to Order at 5:30 p.m. by Chairperson Gene Petre. The Secretary called the roll.

ACTION/DISCUSSION ITEMS:
. Election of 2015 Chairpersons
Mr. Petre called for nominations for Board Chairperson. Motion by Mr. Schoenholtz, seconded
by Ms. Michel to nominate Mr. Petre. Vote on the motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Petre called for nominations for Vice Chairperson. Motion by Ms. Michel, seconded by Mr.
Schoenholz to nominate Mr. Raymond. Vote on the motion carried unanimously.
2. Approval of Special Meeting Minutes of November 25, 2014
Motion by Mr. Raymond, seconded by Mr. Schoenholz to approve Meeting Minutes of
November 25, 2014 as written. Vote on the motion carried unanimously.
3. Staff Reports
Mr. Vergara reviewed his Staff Report and summarized Leisure Services activities/updates as
follows: pavilion project at Banana River Park moving quickly, the amenities coming to Banana
River Park will serve multiple generations and it may eventually vie for status as our flagship
park; talks regarding the City's acquisition of Cherie Down Park continue, conditions of its
procurement must serve the City's best interests as there would be a great deal involved with
assuming responsibility of such an asset; increasing advertisement for Friday Fests with social
media makes a big impact with minimal costs, the goal is to increase public interest and the
overall caliber of this and other events we host; new exercise equipment coming to Xeriscape
Park; discussion of upcoming events including the Fine Art Show, Friday Fest, Monthly Beach
Clean-ups and Sea Oat Planting Project; growth of the Farmer's Market; food contributions
made by the VFW.
Mr. Petre thanked Mr. Vergara for his Report.
OLD BUSINESS:.
• Sponsorships for exercise stations at Manatee Sanctuary Park -- renew interest in the
program
Prohibition of hitting golf balls at Banana River Park — acknowledged that signs are
needed
• Discussion regarding dogs in the parks and definition of service animals
NEW BUSINESS:
• CBAA Art Show — Mr. Schoenholtz shared background and details of the event
• Suggested speed limit reduction on road to Banana River Park
• Sidewalk discussed as part of the plan for Banana River Park amenities
Mr. Petre reminded membcrs that the next meeting of the Culture and Leisure Services Board is
Tuesday, .March 24, 2015.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:18 p.m.
