Solar Pod Light TM (SPL) By Solar LED Innovations, LLC Unique solar powered lighting for portable restroorns www.solargoose.com The Solar Pod Light- (SPL) is easy to install and simple to use. The SPL can be installed in roofs up to 1/4 inch thick. (Adaptor required for thicker roofs.) LOCATE a central position on the roof that is free from ridges, corrugations or seams. A flat surface works best as do slightly curved surfaces. (Slightly curved arched roofs will comply with the flat surface when the SPL unit is tightly screwed into place). Make sure that the location selected has 5 inches diameter of clear flat space and is away from any obstruction. 1. DRILL an access hole. USE ONLY a 3:5/8" (92mm) standard hole saw (drill bit) to create the perfect mounting hole and ensure a secure and weatherproof seal. The hole can be drilled from either direction, from the inside the unit or from the top of the roof). Clean off any plastic roof remnants. 2. REMOVE the ring locknut from the bottom of the SPL, but keep the black rubber weatherproof gasket in place close to the top of the SPL. 3. SCREW the SPL in from the top of the roof with, the gasket on top of roof and under the rim of the SPL, TIGHTEN FIRMLY, the SPL is designed with ultra strong threads that will not distort when screwed into a plastic roof. If the roof is slightly curved, the SPL needs to be tightened firmly so that the roof complies with the underside of the solar panel making it weatherproof. To remove the SPL, it will take considerable effort to unscrew. From inside, the ring locknut can be tightened to double lock the SPL in place. 4.The frosted diffuser dome can be snapped on from the inside. Just align the ridges on the dome with those on the ring locknut and push firmly in place to snap on. The dome should be removed during transportation and snapped back in place after delivery. If you choose to glue the dome, to the ring locknut, it can easily be unscrewed to access the switch (it takes a small drop of plastic cement to permanently mount the dome to the ring locknut). [pictures that partially illustrate steps 1-4] SPL Operating Instructions 1 - Place unit in the sun. The SPL charges automatically, 2. Simple to use a 3 function slide switch "On/Off/Auto". A hidden side switch is available and avoids unauthorized access. The standard switch, is bottom mounted. Use the, On function to provide light inside during day or night, or use the Auto function for the light to automatically go on at night and off during the day. & Replace the Dome to cover the switch and to provide a diffused and pleasant light. If a unit is stored indoors turn the switch to OFF to save draining the battery. The ON position is only for use indoors when the unit needs to be illuminated during daylight hours (for example inside a shed or trailer). Use of the light during daylight hours will drain power needed for nighttime operations. It can provide multiple nights of light in days, with minimal sunshine. The unit is comprised of an integrated high efficiency solar panel, 4 high capacity rechargeable batteries, a sunlight sensor, and 4 super bright LED's. Solar Panel: A 4 inch round high efficiency panel (+17%), produces 1W of power at 6 volts, Under normal operating conditions life expectancy is many years; it is weatherproof and impact resistant. Housing: We designed a unique tough housing that integrates the solar panel, batteries and LED's into a single unit that mounts directly thru the roof in a weatherproof unit. It is made from heat resistant ABS molded plastic designed to resist damage from both man and nature. (-6°F to 176°F). Batteries: We selected high performance 4x2600mAh AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries that do not have memory limitations. Do not spray water directly on the bottom of the SPL, if the unit gets excessively wet, remove cover (four screws) and clean and dry batteries. Use rubbing alcohol to wipe out any material that accumulates in battery box. Use pressurized air to blow out On/Off/Auto slide switch, allow to dry.
